Oh Mary Beth, I didn't see you laid it out for him until after I posted about it. Nice to see I'm not alone in remembering both songs just as well and being doubtful it has anything to do with Nirvana.

I don't know about the Nirvana reference, Goosie -- maybe to the younger fans, all you think of is Nirvana when you here "Come As You Are," but other artists, most notably Peter Wolf from J. Geils Band, who's a friend and an influence on Jon, have used that title, too.
And we have to remember, this album title is hardly etched in stone; he's giving us what he THINKS is going to happen at this very moment, or at the moment he wrote the letter, which is already several weeks past. Things could have changed by now or will change in the future. I can think of several circumstances -- the album they thought they were releasing right after New Jersey that they talked about to Rolling Stone in 1989, which was to include Let's Make It Baby, which never saw the light of day, the Keep The Faith tour starting in Pensacola, Florida in January 1993, that they talked about on MTV in 1992 that actually started in Canada, the solo album called Sex Sells Jon thought he was releasing on the heels of Destination Anywhere that never came to light -- where Jon talked about what they THOUGHT they were going to do, but in the end, the plans changed. I think this goes back to that other thread, where people accuse Jon of lying. He's not lying -- he's telling us what they THINK is going to happen, but because of time and circumstances, sometimes the plans change. Sometimes they don't, too -- we'll just have to wait and see.
Let's be honest, we don't have anything better do to do . . .
