Are they doing it this year?

According to Wikipedia, they are

That info came from an article announcing the New Zealand show. Since then, it was announced that Tom Petty would be playing during halftime at the Super Bowl. Here's what is on the NFL's website - http://www.nfl.com/superbowl/story?i...o&confirm=true
I haven't heard who's playing during pre-game.

Bon Jovi are NOT playing the Super Bowl half time this year. Tom Petty is.

Those articles were just a rumor but when they announced Tom Petty would do the half time show, I remember the article saying it was between Tom Petty, Bon Jovi and The Eagles.

I agree and since MTV stopped doing it, the artists have appealed to an older audience. Just consider the last couple years...

2005: Paul McCartney
2006: The Rolling Stones
2007: Prince
2008: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
