I guess it may be different in other parts of the world, but aside from Livin' On A Prayer and maybe a couple of other songs, the majority of young people in the UK have zero interest or knowledge of the band.

As Cap said I think there is something about the band that has made them very uncool. I see people in Def Leppard and Van Halen and Aerosmith shirts, but I rarely see any Bon Jovi shirts, even at rock shows and that goes for all ages really. It's strange because at their peak they were more popular over here than all of those bands. But I guess they crossed over into a pop audience big time and that maybe alienated the rock fan base a little.

It was rarely ever cool to wear a Bon Jovi shirt, even in the 90s when I was getting into the band I would be ripped for doing that (in the UK). What shirts you see is not an indication of popularity, or if it is, only in a micro way.

I am not arguing either way about Bon Jovi's appeal to younger demographics and am humble enough to understand that I have no real clue what teenagers are listening to in comparison to other legacy bands.

I mean the other poster is a teenager (soon not to be, of course), so is in touch with that demographic and reports Bon Jovi is on the radar, if not popular. I presume the majority of us older fans can only speak about the popularity of the band amongst younger people based on our interactions with our kids.

My kids, for example, listen to them because of me. Their friends (in Argentina) listen to or know the odd hit. I would say 80s and 90s Bon Jovi is as popular as other major bands from that era barring a few culture-permeating exceptions (Guns, Metallica, Nirvana, Oasis, etc). But again, I don't have my boots on the ground with teenagers to know.

You say young people in the UK have zero interest in Bon Jovi. Maybe, probably even. Still, you are saying that with a degree of certainty that makes me think you actually know what you are talking about. I am curious how you know this.

I also wore Bon Jovi shirts in the 90s. And I used to see a lot of other people wearing them too. They were never cool, but they were popular. Now they are neither it seems. So agree to disagree.

Because I live in the UK and know a lot of younger people into music...I'm also very involved with the music industry over here, as well as social media stuff, it's part of my job to know what a bands target audience is. Also it's common sense that people in their 20s generally are not going to be listening to legacy artists in their 60s. The majority of them will be listening to current popular (young) artists.

Younger people do not view bands or consume artists the way that we did when we were young. It's a very different thing. They don't even really listen to albums. It's all about the song now. Of course there are exceptions, the rock fan base for instance. But the rock fan base has very little interest in Bon Jovi in 2023. It's a different world now.
