I cant remember exactly, but it was something like "greenday misses out in 9? to the mighty bon jovi" he was talking about best international band or something, and greenday missed out when bonjvi won in 96 or something? it wasnt an insult though.

I am not sure about 1996, but I am fairly confident Jon won 'Best International Male' in 1997.

Chris evans is a good friend of Jon actually, been on his old TV show 2 or 3 times and also on his radio show a few times too.

When he was introducing Green Day he said that in 96 they were nominated for best international group but they lost out to the mighty Bon Jovi, and that they are nominated for the same award this year.
He didn't sound sarcastic when he said it at all.

I have to say that as soon as Chris said that I immediately became defensive ( I guess that comes with the territory of being a Jovi fan). However, I kept calm enough to listen for the whole thing (lol) and Chris was actually being completely and totally genuine. It was really lovely. For a start, Chris was amazing in my opinion and hosted it brilliantly, then the Jovi statement won me over. Chris was alays a big fan of the guys, and as said before they were on Chris' various shows over the years. I also recall Jon and Richie getting Chris out of a bind by performing Mrs Robinson at the very last minute on TFI. Chris has every reason to like the guys as I guess in some ways they are cut from the same cloth.

Fair enough. My sources weren't exactly reliable.
