Default The difference between 2000 and now

Last night I watched the Crush tour dvd, the Giants stadium concert in 2001 and then listened to the Shepherds Bush cd from last september. it has to be said that there is a huge difference in the performances. Apart from there seeming to be more energy in the Giants stadium show, the performance itself seems to be better. I think is down to two reasons:

Firstly, it has been said that Jon smoked more when he was making films and this would obviously have smoked a lot from 1996/7 - 2000. Since he is probably smoking less now this is why his voice IS improving.

Secondly, in 2000 the band hadn't toured together for nearly four years and as good as they are were bound to be a bit rusty. Now that they have been back as a band for three years you can see the difference. Jons voice is back to where it was around 1995, and the band really seem to be having a great time on stage.

I say this as i think the more we get behind the band, the better the performances will get

Can't wait for Hyde Park!!

I agree with you partly, I think that the band will never lose their touch performing live, I would never say that their 2000 appearances were rusty, they were excellent, but I must admit, it does seem that the band are getting better all the time, heres to the UK Bounce Tour!

Don't know why he hasn't stopped smoking altogeather. He should know that it will eventually kill his voice.

I feel the same way. Its funny you mentioned the Crush dvd vs Giants Stadium because I'm always comparing those two as well. Hopefully they will only improve from here.

The same reason I keep gaining and loosing the same ten pounds. An addiction is an addiction and KNOWING what's good for you doesn't mean you can kick the habit. I just can't seem to give up sugar. LOL Jon can't give up nicotine. Most people have something in their life that's a bad habit. If smoking is the worst vice Jon has picked up in 20 years in the business, good for him. That's not to say I don't want him to quit smoking, but I can't sit back and judge him when I can't kick the habit of eating sugar. Everyone else in the band smokes, so it must be that much harder to quit--just like I find it harder to not eat that cookie when everyone else is having one.

I assume you mean that you're trying to have a diet with less sugar in it?

Or do you sit at home eating bags of sugar?...becuase that would be funny, lol.

I love teh Gaints Stadium performance and think it is one of their bests, Ive watched their performances over the years, different countries, up and donw times etc. The guys just really seem to get a kick out of performing at Giants, its their home ground , and its what they always dreamed of so of course they get an extra buzz being there.

Its well known that singers voices change as they get older, nothing you can do about that, but I smoking cant be helping.

I haven't seen the WHOLE Giants show, only what was aired by VH1, but it rocked. It has so much more energy than the Crush DVD show, but that is an awesome show in it's own right.

The Sheperds Bush show was made more special becuase it was broadcast to the cinemas, and the webcast, so it was more of an event, not just a show.

I bet the new tour will be even better.

I suppose one thing which makes each tour get better is not only the experience the band has gotten, but the fact that each time they have another 10-15 songs to add to the roster.

I am glad you posted this topic- I absolutely loved the Crush/OWN shows but what I realized after CAA on 2/10 was how much more passion and emotion I am hearing and seeing on stage this time. They really are giving it their all out there right now. Part of it is the Bounce new material which is superior to the Crush stuff. The stage show with the satellites is amazing too- you can see every facial expression so clearly from even far away.
