Default The Fire Inside?

Been listening to the box recently and damn, that's a collection of songs.
This is however not about the box, but about a particular song, The Fire Inside.

Anyone got any clue what the song is about? Obviously, the title is a metaphor but a metaphor for what?? I can't really figure it out.

My guess is that it's a song about running away from who you are but not making it far. About dying a lonely man because that fire inside can't be stopped. About trying to change but not being able to and in the end accepting it...but what I can't tell is this "fire inside" a good thing? A bad thing? What album was this song written for? Great song I must add...never really noticed it until now. Weird...

I agree with you about the meaning, seems that way but I've honestly never been good with the meaning behind songs.

I think it's a decent song, nothing more, nothing less.

One of my brother's doesn't like it because of the constant repeat of 'The Fire Inside, the Fire Inside!' He also dislikes Lay Your Hands On Me.

Does he not like Keep The Faith or Have A Nice Day either?

I think it's a little simpler than that. You are who you are - you can run all you want but you can't change (or escape) what's inside. The lyrics even say:

There will be no forgiveness but I'll never deny the fire inside.

Jon was really into fire inside at one time. River's Run Dry has the line:

Everybody goes with the fire in their eyes

Which says a similar thing (alone the same lines). You go with what's inside you.

Two of my favorites from the box set by the way.

This is what is written about the song in the booklet:

"That was kind of the bitterness that I had towards the music business because I realized it was called the music business, after the New Jersey record, around the time of Young Guns, but how it had changed my life so but not necessarily always for the better. I was just tired of being angry and needed to move on so this wasn't included but I like the lyric."

Hope this helps!

The Fire Inside was my favorite from the beginning and it's my favorite now. I really thought I was the only one that felt that way!!! Musically, it reminds me of Blood On Blood far too much. Throw some electric guitars and drums in this one and it's really close!

Jon's voice changed so much during 25 years. But yeah, it's strange the voice in that song.
