1. 7800 Fahrenheit

The original 'dark' album in my honest opinion. Their most under-rated record to date and looking past the poor production, this is a tremdnous album, from the rockers like 'Tokyo Road', 'Hardest Part Is The Night' and 'In & Out Of Love' to the brilliant ballads of 'Only Lonely' and 'Silent Night'.

2. New Jersey

Their best 80's album some may say. A great mix of light-hearted rockers with passion('Lay Your Hands') to the sublime mature material ('Livin' In Sin', 'Blood On Blood', 'I'll Be There For You', 'Stick To Your Guns'). An amazing album in every sense which many would find hard not to enjoy.

3. Keep The Faith

This album's high points are some of the best material they have ever recorded, like 'Keep The Faith', 'Bed Of Roses' and 'Dry County'. These high points make up for the rather average last few tracks but still an album which is different from their previous work and one which is a fantastic record.

4. These Days

Not much needs to be said. Their best album without a doubt and has a wide range of material, from rockers to ballads to epics to plain old warm and cosy listening.

5. CrossRoad

Simply because no collection is complete without 'Wanted Dead Or Alive', 'Livin' On A Prayer', 'Always', 'Someday I'll Be Saturday Night', 'Runaway' and 'Blaze Of Glory'.

1. 7800 Fahrenheit
2. New Jersey
3. Keep The Faith
4. These Days
5. CrossRoad

So you'd show them nothing that represents the 2000s? And I know that if 7800 was the first album I heard by them, I probably wouldn't like them today. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but it's not an album someone in this day and age would say: "wow, i cant believe Bon jovi have done this, it's so good!"

Thank you!! I love this album, every single song on it. But so many people just glance right past it and tell me "no no no that's just not their good stuff". BAH to those people!

Though honestly, I dunno if I'd put it on this list. And for probably the same reason I wouldn't put These Days on this list (as much as I like that one too). I'd look at these 5 albums as trying to convert my friend to the Jovi side...at which point s/he would want to listen to more! So which ones would convert someone?

1) Slippery.
Just cause that's the classic...what really started them on this whole rock star path. It's what converted a generation...it could nab my friend too

2) New Jersey
I always get this awesome feeling whenever I listen to this album...like it's a sunny day in high school and I've got this tape blasting on my way home. Whether you were in high school for this one or not, it's definitly a feel good album, it's got a lot of their 80s charm, and my own personal favorite song of theirs (Born to be my Baby)

3) Keep the Faith.
I'm a bass player...and that song is pretty much the ONLY one they've ever done with a decently prominant bass line. Ok, besides Diamond Ring maybe. Naturally, the rest of the album rocked too...but I'd have it in here for the fact that it's the most "transition" album. Shows where they've been and where they'd be going. Love love love.

4) Have a Nice Day
I don't know what it is about this album, but I absolutely love it. It's not so bouncy and poppy as Crush, not so heavy as Bouce. Right in the middle, a good view of their 2000s stuff. And I love Story of my Life and HAND,

5) The Circle ... or Crush (if we're not using The Circle)
If we are including The Circle, I'd totally have it on this list. Superman my new favorite power ballad (yes, even over Always!...tho that may be the novelty of a new cd). And... well, just a lot of other reasons but I don't want to be spoilery to those holding out
If we aren't including The Circle, then Crush for many of the same reasons as Slippery. Where Slippery hooked one generation, Crush hooked the other. And there has to be something special about an album that can do that.

So abbr.ed!

1) Slippery
2) New Jersey
3) Keep The Faith
4) Have a Nice Day
5) The Circle (or Crush if we aren't using that here)

I didn't do them by order of how I would make them listen to it, just chronological order(with the exception of CrossRoad as it is a compilation album).

Other than that, no I wouldn't put any post-2000 albums there. There isn't a strong enough album(and I haven't heard 'The Circle').

If this is the version with Save a prayer, I'd make the exact same list

Although, if I was recomending some of my friends a Bon jovi album, I would probably choose

Crossroads
Crush
Bounce
HAND
The Cirlce (was debating this album, as I haven't heard it yet.. Probably a better choice than lost highway for mainstream music fans)

Simply because most of them listen to mainstream, and that's about as mainstream as your gunna get when it comes to jovi. But if someone actually appreciated music, I would go with wrath manias exact list. **** slippery. Good starter record with good hits, but that's about it for that album.,easily the worst album of the 80s for me.
Now really, that is just a little too much, I truly don't think you mean that. You have Bounce on your list for crying out loud.

If you read my intire post, you would understand why bounce was there. It's because it's borderline pop music, and all my friends listen to mainstream pop and linkin park style rock music.

I then proceeded to say that if it was for people who actually liked music, I would give the 5 albums wrath mania suggested.

Slippery when wet IS my least favorite 80s album. 1. New jersey 2. Bon jovi 3. 7800 4. SWW... Half the songs are good ( prayer, wanted, let it rock, never say goodbye, wild in the streets) but I couldnt care less for the rest.

Cross Road
New Jersey
Keep The Faith

Nothing else is even remotely essential for somebody who's not into BJ. Hell, the perfect "general public" record is Cross Road; it's missing BTBMB and I'd Die For You, otherwise it's pretty much perfect.

1. New Jersey
Because it's one of the best "commercial rock" albums of all time. Great music, some lyrics aren't so good but a lot display a humourous tone that we haven't heard before or since, and most are at least pretty acceptable. Really fun rock songs with great instrumentals and ball-crushingly good vocals.

2. Keep The Faith
Quite a varied album and shows a new, slightly artistic way of looking at the music. Keep The Faith, Dry County etc, brilliant songs. And I think I Want You is pretty ace tbh Also: probably the bassist's Bon Jovi album due to the title track, Fear etc.

3. These Days
Because it shits over all the other albums with it's great song, good lyrics, and top vocals and arrangements. The band's defining artistic statement. For the more serious fan of music.

4. Cross Road
Got all the pre-These Days hits on it, obviously, including some not on Keep The Faith or New Jersey. Pretty essential.

5. The Circle
It's always good to show them what the band's up to now, and seeing as this is one of their best albums anyway, this should clearly be on the list.
