Hahahah...I was thinking the same thing, but I refrained from commenting. Although I do know what you mean Kev, but it just sounded funny.

I've seen greenday twice and I don't rate much of their recorded stuff but there's no doubting that they're absolutely fantastic live.

they start playign a song then break it down and get someone up to play guitar drums and bass for a bit. It's pretty cool and if I was a massive greenday fan and i got onstage to play with them I know my year would be made.

Dunno how much of that story I believe cos as far as it goes, greenday don't need to fear many people live and they don't come across as a pissy drama queen mob either

It's what the DJs at the station were reporting after the show when they were talking about the show and the backstage gossip. That's where it started. I heard the stories initially from friends in the area who went to the show and/or listened to that station.

If I were at that concert and I'd seen a kickass Jovi show, I can imagine having Greenday come on after would sort of leave me thinking "meh..I've seen enough... I'm outta here"..
yeah yeah yeah....

nauseating how every story about Bon Jovi by the Oompas puts them on some sort of pedestal of BJ being the one band that rocked the house and how BJ are the toughest act to follow and how BJ is really just IT and everybody else is just, well, not so great.

When in fact during the grunge/pop-punk era nobody gave a hoot about BJ and the likes (sure some leftover 80s followers couldn't let go and move on) - jesus.....

Bon Jovi are NOT that great live - they have great shows - other bands have awesome shows as well..... Bon Jovi is not the be all end all....

now I am going to go and gag for a while.....
Well there are are tonnes of great live acts out there and Greenday are probably one of them, I was just saying that if I were there that day, I can't imagine I'd be that psyched about Greenday coming after Jovi (even if Jovi's show wasn't that great). Not saying GD suck, it would just seem anticlimatic somehow to end the show with what would seem like an opening act (partly cause they wern't as experienced and didn't have much material in those days)... I really couldn't care less what anyone else thought, or which band was more popular based on trends in the music scene...

Where I live though, we never get any any concerts (never been to a Jovi or GD show) and the biggest band to come to my town in the last ten years was Midnight Oil... so I can't talk from experience cause I ain't seen sh#t when it comes to live music.

I remember this story during that time too. It did happened. I read about it in Rolling Stone Magazine at the time and it was on a few radio stations. First off, it was weird to see Bon Jovi on that bill. It was during the Grunge period and so all the bands were from that kind of music. I remember thinking what the hell are Bon Jovi doing there? the audience are going to rip them apart. The band got the opposite reaction and the audience loved them. After that responds and the show that Bon Jovi gave, it was going to hard for Greenday to follow up. Hence that reaction from Billie Joe backstage.
