I have always loved that song, nice to know it was an important part of the bands carrer, it gives me hope that someday they'll play it again.

Well I can't get one thing..... if Richie and Jon needed a "mature" classic song back 10 years ago to decide that the band would continue...... why Bon Jovi exist nowadays ? I mean how Richie can accept this new way the band got ?.......

Quite an interesting story, hadn't heard that before, though the reasons behind its creation matter little to me personally. I remember skipping it the first time I played through the album a few years ago, but it grew on me, and I'd say it is one of my top 10 favourite songs ever now, and as most people say, it is a pity that it doesn't get played anymore.

I feel exactly the same. Keep The Faith is my favourate album for the main reason that I feel it is a collection of some of the most mature music that Bon Jovi have ever written. Dry County is one that has always stood out for me. It's not a catchy song, but it is very unique. It's great to hear the true story behind the song, as I thought to begin with that it was mainly fictional. However it certainly proves that the songs written from the heart, providing the songwriter has some sanity, are the most meaningful.

That song blew me away the first time I heard it and it still does. I always thought the story could be used as the background for a novel or movie. The lyrics are incredible. Even my mother who wasn't one to listen to music often commented on how powerful the lyrics were. I've always thought of it as the best solo Richie has done because even the guitar solo seems to tell a story, at least in my mind. For that matter, all of the music tells the story.

As far as why they don't play it--I think it's because audiences don't react well to it. I've seen them do it a few times and people lost interest. I'd love to hear them do it again.

Eh?

I'm surprised that the solo was supposedly recorded on first take. Especially considering Ice recently talked about it using two different guitars.

Meaning played half of the solo with one take and the the second half with the other. Then again, that's purely speculation from a fan. Who knows.

You can all get your rocks ready to sling but...I'm glad the song is not played live. Yes yes, I know. I'm just saying, it's a lot more special to me if they don't play it half assed. Remeber how good Hey god and Something for the Pain sounded live? Then remember how they played them again in 2001 and it just wasn't "there"? Maybe it's just me but a song with as much heart and soul as Dry County should not be played any way but the way it was intended. Meh.

Interesting.. I actually have a bootleg of one of the shows I believe you are talking about Osaka 1991.. It was a great setlist (they did some rare shit like Cadillac Man, Walk Away Rene, Wild is the Wind, and I believe Diamond Ring but could be wrong on that one...) which is why I bought it off of Ebay a few years ago but watching it you can clearly see the band was strained.. it is obvious watching Jon and Richie on this tape. Neither were happy to be at that show so I guess they did it for the $$$ ~ learning this now makes a lot of sense after watching the tape

Also really interesting to learn how DC was written and the effect it had on the band... It is touching to know that the song meant so much to them. All I can say is if this is the song that saved the band thank God Jon wrote it that night

Thanks for posting!

The all request hour, the girl in the front row has just asked for Blood on Blood, ok, Merry Christmas young lady!" Amazing <3
