Default The Times - Bounce Review

Don't know if it has been posted before.... It's a good review, I think he sees the postivity of the album.

The Times Review - Bounce(Mercury)
It was Malcolm Young of AC/DC who summed up his band’s musical philosophy with the dictum that “it’s best just to stay where you’re at, because you’re going to come back there anyway”, but in truth he might just as well have been referring to Bon Jovi. Their tried and tested formula, combining big-guitar rock with relentlessly upbeat lyrics and choruses moulded to aerodynamic perfection, has enabled the group to glide above successive waves of more fashionable guitar music — from grunge to nu-metal — with an imperious sense of destiny that has not faltered in nearly two decades.

Bounce (Mercury) offers more of the same with added emotional payload courtesy of September 11. “That was my brother lost in the rubble/That was my sister lost in the crush,” Jon Bon Jovi sings at the start of Undivided in his strangely forced New Jersey snarl, setting the scene for several songs which somehow manage to locate the positive aspects of events since that terrible day (“Where we once were divided now we stand united”).

It bears no scrutiny as rational analysis, and even as poetry it is little short of simple-minded. But their uncynically stated belief that with a bit of grit and gumption we can bounce back from the worst that fate can throw at us is still oddly affecting.

By the way he gave i 4 out of 6 stars
