Default The verdict: Captain Crash & The Beauty Queen From Mars

Aloha !

While having the big setlist debate with Pedro Badname in the tour forum I noticed that eventually more people digged this song than I thought. So, should they keep playing it, or do you agree that it should never ever should have been recorded and played live? For every time we got Capt. Crash we could've gotten a better song and yet there's Jon, Richie and Hugh swinging their guitars again.

Personally, I think the song goes nowhere. It's lyrics might be original for a Bon Jovi song, but eventually it builds up to, well, it actually doesn't build up at all. It drags as a live song, has no guitar solo, the riff is annoying, and the tudutuu, tudutuu serve no purpose.

Also, and I've said it before, listen to this song:

Think about that band whatever you want, but it becomes obvious that Capt. Crash is a direct rip off from the Oasis B-side Stay Young. A song Oasis didn't think was good enough for their album. And a song that has better vocals and guitar work than Capt. Crash has.

I think all the fools in the pit with their confetti, trying to make it look like a "fun" song are a bunch of idiots. And that wave they try to start up everytime is something you do at a Gareth Gates concert. Not a Bon Jovi show. Just my thoughts.

So, what do you think? Capt. Crash, yay or nay?

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Holy shit - I never heard that particular song - I'm not much of an Oasis fan. Yeah, there are far too many similarities to ignore. I'm not that fond of the Bon Jovi song either - it's ok I don't hate it but - it goes nowhere. As you say, the lyrics are different for Bon Jovi and I kind of liked it when it first came out. I always assumed it was a nod to David Bowie's 1972 album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars - not an Oasis ripoff LOL.

I like the song enough. I like the live version from the Crush DVD. Other than that I would be happy if they didn't play it live when I saw them. I would much prefer one or two songs that they haven't played in a while in it's place.

I don't want to hear it at every show but I actually really like the song, don't care if it is a rip off of another song, lol!

I actually quite like it, it's just a good fun song. Have enjoyed it every time i've seen/ heard it performed live.

The 3 times I have seen BJ live have all been totally different for me. The first time I saw them on the OWN tour, I was just really a casual fan, only albums I had were Crush and Crossroad, hearing Captain Crash was great as it was one of my favourite tracks on Crush. Second time was on the Bounce Tour, by this time I was a lot more into them, would still just have considered myself a casual fan though, still enjoyed hearing it. By the time the HAND tour came my way, I was getting a bit obsessed lol, my girlfriend was going mad cos all I ever listened to in the car was BJ albums . I could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure they played Captain Crash 2nd right after Last Man Standing, I loved it and so did most of the crowd around me as far as I was aware.

I'm pretty sure i'll always enjoy this song, whether it be live or just on a cd.

But I can see your point Seb, perhaps it should be dropped for a while to make way for some of the bands better songs, but for now i'm still happy to hear it . But i'd rather they toured and still played it rather than not touring at all!

I've never heard that Oasis song....very interesting...I'm kinda disappointed now because I always thought CC was the most original song on Crush, and it turns out Oasis did it first.

Personally, I don't mind CC in the setlist, sure there are better songs, but I'd take CC any day over I've Got the Girl or Mystery Train.

If I remember rightly, and I could be completely wrong about this and IF I heard it it was only from The Sun or some crappy tabloid, but apparently Noel Gallagher wanted to sue over this. It appears as if he was certainly aware that the song existed and rightly wasn't happy about it. I also recall Jon being called out on it in an interview?

I nearly named my hamster Captain Crash.

But he died as a Clint.

Wow I had no idea. Actually the really funny thing about that is Oasis is my brother's favourite band, and when I talk to him we pretty much only ever talk about music or sport. So either my bro doesn't know about Captain Crash or he has just never dragged it up. I still like the song though, but I also like Joey so make of that what you will.

Basically I can always have a lot of fun listening to Crash and I've never heard it live (other than on Crush DVD) so it's a yay from me.... But if I went to BJ shows regularly, I wouldn't want it played every night.

Isn't it meant to be about a "hasbeen" Hollywood couple? Do we know who they are?
