The box set is more debatable on what's band and what's not but that's another thread.
"Stay" is also not a BJ song??? Sure about this? I thought they rerecorded some of Jon's songs in the Crush sessions, such as "Just Older"...

I never heard of "Gimme Some".

I think this song would have fit in nicely on the Crush album, especially if they had taken off Mystery Train and included this one.

I don't think even Bon Jovi would have put It's My Life AND I Don't Wanna Live Forever on the one album.

As I said, I really prefer the latter but IML is more... memorable if that makes sense.

I just don't get all the negativity toward It's My Life. I f*ckin LOVE that song!

I think I Don't Want To Live Forever is a decent song.

Just Older and Save the World were rerecorded but Stay was the exact same version as the one that was played at that 10th anniversary dinner in 1998. You can compare the two versions to hear what I mean. The tracks I mentioned are exactly the same.

I didn't care for this one.

I dunno if anyone has pointed it out yet but local boy in the photograph was hardly a smash hit when it was first released, the stereophonics were still a fairly "unknown" band until they released performance and cocktails and the big record from word gets around was 1,000 trees.

To think that Jon somehow came across this song that didn't dent the charts and decide to rip it off is a bit much.

Erm, Word Gets Around peaked at number 6 in the UK album charts and Local Boy was the biggest hit coming from that album. A Thousand Trees didn't even crack the top 20.

And it's not a bit much to say Jon ripped it off. February 1998 was when Local Boy was a hit, and Jon often said during the promotion of the Destination Anywhere album how he loved all the indie bands that came up in England back in 1996. Word Gets Around was released back in September 1997 and the last known promo show for Destination Anywhere is from August 29. It all makes a lot of sense. And besides that you just can't deny that the riff from Local Boy is almost exactly the same as the one from IDWTLF, as are the general feeling and production.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
It's a short pentatonic riff around a similar (but certainly not the same) chord progression.

I don't think it's out of the realms of possibility that it's purely coincidental. I'm pretty sure you've come up with some simple riffs that turn out to be very similar or exactly like another tune you come across later...

Even if the riff is just co-incidental then you can't deny that the songs sound the same as well when it comes to the production.

And no, I've never come up with a riff that sounds like another tune unless I do it intentionally by putting bits and pieces from other songs into songs of mine.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
