And it was also after his suicide attempt that Dorothea proposed doing a motocycle-tour through the country, which was the inspiration for Dry County, right?
No they were already married when they went on the bike trip around America but it was during this bike trip that inspired Dry County, you are right.

When did JON say he attempted suicide?

It's in the source I gave in my first post:

"(...) On the advice of his wife, Dorothea, he sought psychiatric help. The episode isn't one he's comfortable with. He wriggles uneasily in his chair as he admits: "I went to see a psychologist - or whatever the terminology is. On the way there I thought about jumping out of the car- that's how burnt-out I was. I was very anxious to talk to someone, but I couldn't find the place and got there 45 minutes late. I really wanted to go in there and spill my guts about everything in my life, for however long it was going to take. After 15 minutes the guy says "Your time's up" I got very Sopranos, swore, and went "OK, Thank you very much. I'll work out my problems at home." He calls this period in 1991 "the grey summer" and it marked a turning point. He took direct action and fired the band's management team (...)"

and

"We were driving along the Pacific Coast Highway one time and I was in the passenger seat thinking I was just going to throw myself out of the car."

Letīs not exaggerate this. Obviously there are a lot of musicians that have committed or attempted suicide or at least lived in a way that sort of asks for trouble and leads to catasthropic consequences. People with some serious psychiatric issues. People unable to cope with superstardom.

And then thereīs Jon. Just look at him. Heīs a father of four and married to the same woman for the most part of his life. The man keeps on making music and worldwide tours on a regular basis. Heīs doing it with the very same people as he did almost 30 years ago. Heīs a strict businessman. No drugs. No tabloids, no hidden skeletons that we know of. Shall I go on? All this sounds quite stable to me.

So he said he almost jumped out of a moving car that summer. Well he did not do it anyway. That is very far from attempting suicide. It was Jonīs somewhat melodramatic way of saying how lost he felt he was by that time.

Actually, I canīt imagine a rock star more stable than JB.

This. I always cringe when the subject of "Jon's attempted suicide" pops up in the conversation. Jon has never said (according to my knowledge)he attempted suicide, and has never overemphasized that whole car-incident. The fans have taken tabloid-esque rights with what he's said and over-dramatized the situation.

That first reference isn't relevant to a 'suicidal tendency' at all. He's merely inferring that he wanted to run away and escape having to visit a psychologist.

The second, although more specific, is far from a suicide attempt or even close to contemplating comitting suicide.

I agree. I have never heard of any suicide topics relating to JBJ and on the basis of this flimsy evidence, I would still claim that. It's just people wanting to believe something that isn't actually there.

From what he said I got that after the NJ-Tour he suffered from panic attacks (in close rooms, etc.) so maybe it was a panic reaction. That doesn't mean he was REALLY suicidal.

But I think that even if a person is emotionally stable and focused in life it doesn't mean there weren't times where this person wasn't. Years back I had a dark period myself but I'm really stable and happy in general. I think that people go through different phases and can suffer from depression and anxiety at some point in their lives without being depressed for ever.

I was just listening to The Sole Truth and vaguely remembered this topic. I don't know if it had been done by someone on here before, but I sat down and figured out the lyrics.
Maybe it's interesting for a few:

You know I love you baby
Yeah, you know I do
Feel like you've been left alone
And there's nothing here for you
I know how long you've been waiting
It's closing time once again
And if he don't even come around to rescue you,
what then?

But who am I to talk?
Cause my guitar's my only friend
And if you'd like I'll drive you home
Pour you a drink and we'll pretend
But you and I are both married
Bought that big house and car
Remember living on easy street
Instead of being where we are

[Chorus]:
And trying to face the sole truth
You can't escape the sole truth
And if you just believe me,
that's all that's left to do
There's nothing more that I can do
Than face the sole truth

Say this guy is lying every time it rains
Every drop of rain that falls,
you just feel your pain
It's time you stopped all the crying
It's time we bury the curse
I know that you can do better than me
And maybe that's why I hurt

Well lately I've been thinking
Maybe I'm too young
Remember keep on going baby
There's just one thing I can't run from
You're still bringing me here, baby
To this place we call home
To face our failures all by myself
At least we won't be alone

[Chorus]:
There's the sole truth
Can't erase the sole truth
If you just believe me,
that's all that's left to prove
Nothing more that I can do
Than face the sole truth

I don't want to fall in love again
If you got to know the truth
Well I don't want to fall in love tonight
Cause I couldn't bear to lose

Now the sun is coming up
Why don't we shut this damn place down?
Tomorrow we can laugh this off
I've had my share of whiskey here to drown
As you walk to your car there's nothing more I can lose
Face to face with the sole truth
Can't escape the sole truth
You can't erase the sole truth
Can't escape the sole truth
