It's my absolute fave album, and not just of Bon Jovi. The success they made out of THESE DAYS is quite underrated, I think. Commercially, Bon Jovi were back with a bang with Crossroad and These Days just continued on that. I recall that in 1995 the band were getting huge coverage because of These Days.

The mood of the album might not be all dark, though I was a 15 year old back then and had a lot of angst in me so some of the songs like "Dammed", "Hey God", "Something To Believe In" and "These Days" really appealed to me. But now, almost a decade later, I'm a different person yet that album still appeals to me and speaks to my heart like no other. I think if the power of "These Days" the album could be summed up in one sentence, that would be it.

They could never make another "These Days" just like how U2 could never make another "Joshua Tree". I don't compare U2 with Bon Jovi because they're both different and anyway I'm a fan of both. But those of you who know U2's music will know that with "Achtung Baby" and "All That You Can't Leave Behind", U2 made albums as deep as "Joshua Tree" but that had evolved. In between they've also had their share of mediocre albums (by their standards) such as "Rattle and Hum", "Pop" and "Zooropa". Now "Crush" and "Bounce" aren't bad albums at all, but in Bon Jovi standards, they could be similarly described as mediocre or average. At best, as someone just said, they can put the drive and passion on the next album. You can tell the difference in feeling on an album like "Bounce" or "Crush" compared to the sound and energy from "These Days" and "TLFR" - in my opinion anyway.
