Aloha !
The best versions live from the These Days album in my opinion:
1.Hey God - November 10, 1995 Oympic Park, Melbourne, Australia
This version is much better than the one from the Live From London DVD, it's longer and harder.
2.Something For The Pain - November 4, 1995, River Plate Stadium, Buenos Aires, Argentina
They could never get this song right when playing it live in my opinion, but this is the best version there is. It's again, harder than the one on the live album, and has better vocals.
3.This Ain't A Love Song - May 27 1995, Weserstadium, Bremen, Germany
The ending with Jon's singing over Richie's guitar only is better than on Live From London, when he realizes that the crowd loves it he gives a much better effort.
4.These Days - November 4, 1995, River Plate Stadium, Buenos Aires, Aregentina
Better than the Johannesburg version, better vocals and I've got the feeling that the song goes slightly faster and is therefore more powerfull, but that could be me.
5.Lie To Me - March 22, 1996, Taratata TV Show, France
The only soundboard version that exists, as I remember from the top of my head. It's much slower than the album version, a bit too slow that it starts to drag a bit, but it's overall a good performance.
6.Damned - May 19, 1996, Yokohama, Yokohama Stadium, Japan
Very fast. It contains elements of If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don't Want To Be Right) which makes the part after the solo much better.
7.My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms - May 19, 1996, Yokohama, Yokohama Stadium, Japan
This is also one of those songs they could never right when playing live. Because the studio version contains too many guitarparts played by Richie I think, they could not copy the things live. It's also very hard for Jon to sing, and this is the only soundboard there exists. There are better performances but they're in audience.
8.(It's Hard) Letting You Go - December 1, 1995, ?, Johannesburg, South Africa
Very good, it sounds a bit like the way they played it before These Days was released.
9.Hearts Breaking Even - Never played live.
10.Something To Believe In - May 19, 1996, Yokohama, Yokohama Stadium, Japan
Powerful vocals, for the rest it's almost a copy of the song in the studio.
11.If That's What It Takes - Never played live.
12.Diamond Ring - Most versions during the actual These Days tour were a capella, and only a few electric versions are available from the Here, There And Everywhere Tour. If you're looking for a good acoustic version, take the one from then TLFR DVD.
13.All I Want Is Everything - No soundboard recording exists, and the song is again one of those songs that didn't work live. Jon's vocals are never powerful enough to deliver the same performance live as he did in the studio.
14.Bitter Wine - Never played live.
Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
