I liked Richies version, all apart from the chorus. Not a fan of how he sings that. Would have loved to have seen it live, but it was dumped before the tour got to us.

A Richie song is always a highlight of a show, and would love him to get a bit more choice to perform next tour.

Homebound Train was great for him, as was Lay Your Hands with that added jam at the end. Hopefully he'll sing some of his new songs on the next Bon Jovi tour.
The funny thing is that I can't think of one version of TD I've seen where Richie actually plays the studio recorded solo. I love that solo too and the way it blasts straight back into the chorus is one of the things that makes it such a powerful song. Love it!

Jon makes it more of a story of a whole, and another kind of passion. And it's really nice that he has dropped the guitar for the song during The Circle Tour. It turns out to be a really good live song with Jon moving around, especially the 2nd verse! And of course Richie back vocals is very missed in his own version!

One thing I miss in Jons version nowdays is the fact that he don't goes for the high note before the 2nd chorus any more, "I guess I rather dies then fade away".

Richie did it in all shows!

Jon did it back in the days, Helsinki 1996 here. (one of the best TD peformances ever)

He "kinda" tried to do the same thing in 2000 to like in Gothenburg!

In 2001 it was gone, he didn't even tried to go for it. Sad, cause I think that was one fo the highlights of the peformance!
Exactly.. such little details can make a song for me. After hearing this from a show from 1996 I really miss it in other performances. The same goes for the ending of I Believe from 1993 which was never repeated, the rant in Hey God in the fall of 1995 (it disappeared after the first show in Yokohama 1996) etc etc.

So this is a song about having a dream and chasing it, till you find the Bright Lights." - Aldo Nova.

That performance of 'These Days' at Helsinki in '96...never seen it. I've just watched it. I can go for months without listening to this band but there are certain performances that just make you think 'these guys are special'...I love them.

Exactly. This is THE performance for me. Certainly there were many other outstanding ones over the decades, but if people ask me "why are you a fan of this band?" I show them that performance and say "because of that!"
Convinced everyone so far!

Back to the topic: I always liked Richie's version (well, except for the violin), but it had a more melancholic feeling to me while Jon on vocals gave it more dramatic spin. Can't say it any better, but I prefer it with Jon doing the vocal duties.
