"My Guitar" a poor track??? Lol, I love the difference of opinions on here. In my opinion it is the greatest song ever written, which is a far cry for a poor track on These Days. Haha, I love you guys.

Yeah, These Days is indeed consistent. But so is New Jersey. The only song I don't like there is Homebound Train. That's consistent. I think Bounce is also consistent. I only don't like 2 songs on Bounce. That's a consistent record. Usually I LIKE only 2-3 songs on a record.

Why are you saying that Jon is not a good songwriter? His range is outstanding. He can write anything. He can write happy songs, miserable songs, angry songs, socially conscious songs, hot songs. He's diverse to a point that BoG and DA seem to be written by different artists.

These Days is good, but it does have some poor tracks, such as Diamond Ring, and As My guitar.

WHAT?!?! My heart is pounding. My Guitar Lies Bleeding is an excellent song, my favorite off of These Days. I even like Diamond Ring. These Days is definitely one of their best, although I also love New Jersey and Keep the Faith. It's hard to pick just one favorite.

I think it's funny that you're taking a stab at Jon as a songwriter when he's said that Richie was more involved in writing Crush than he had been anything since Slippery and New Jersey. As he put it, Richie "really stepped up to the plate" or something like that because Jon had enough material ready for Crush without any more songs being written. Jon really praised Richie's writing contribution to the Crush CD. Yes, that statement makes one think, "Wait, he's credited on almost everything on These Days and only half of Crush," but Jon has said that. It leads one to believe that some of the collaborations are more one-sided than others. Jon's also said that Bounce is much more a Jon&Richie record than any other album.

As far as solo albums, I don't see how anyone could think Stranger and Undiscovered Soul have more depth than Blaze and Destination. But, hey, depth is up to the one who percieves it. I'm certainly not going to argue about it. I just know Jon's CDs appeal to ME on more of an emotional and intellectual level. And, also, how do you really compare Jon and Richie as songwriters when there are only 3 songs Richie has released that were written solely by him? There's not enough material he's written ALONE to really compare with the material Jon has written ALONE.

These Days, I agree is a great CD with great lyrics. Though some of the songs are not among their best at all: Something For the Pain and Damned leave a lot to be desired. Still, I enjoy all their CDs.

These Days is one of my favorite BJ albums. Sure it took a while to grow on me but every song is great IMO. I was driving along in my car the other night and I noticed Lie to Me and Letting You Go really are amazing songs and are probably some of BJ's most underated ballads... The way Jon sings in Letting You go and how he almost sounds like he's crying at the end towards the end of it... You wouldn't believe these were the same guys who were playing Bad Medicine 7 years earlier (which is also great).... just shows how at songwriters, Jon and Richie are a great and very diverse team and comparing them is pointless cause they are both working in the same band and therefore are responsible for how the music and lyrics turn out...

Also, Richies solos like Undiscovered Soul are great albums... but songs like Harlem Rain, Made in America etc. arn't the type of songs the band play... The band play fun uplifting rock and roll and happen to have shown diversity with their darker projects which they may go back to later in their career,, but these songs on Richies albums are different lyrically and arn't the type of songs the band would play... The same goes for Blaze and Destination as well....

btw, I don't feel that Crush was a step backward.... I mean it was just a new thing for the band.. They'd done hard rock, rock and roll, ballads, darker more lyrically driven songs and with Crush they were obviously aiming for something a bit more poppy, softer and fun... Bounce was just the next step... Even if the lyrics arn't always Shakespeare, the livliness music and catchiness of the songs make up for it...

These Days is a very powerful album with a lot of meaning to it. It is a fab album and i don't think there is one track that i dislike on there. I also think that bounce is a fantastic album but there are two tracks which i could live without. Just thought i would offer my opinion!!

It's quiete strange how I was thinking today to a couple of songs from TD that are really OUTSTANDING: Something to believe in and My guitar lies bleeding. They're complex in a way, imho, that makes you find something new in them everytime you play them. Not only complex but complete, musically and lyrically... the way Jong sings them, what they deal with... the whole TD album is kinda special... probably not the best album to play as soundtrack for a party (lol) but I never get bored of it. It shows they can vary their musical style everytime they feel like to. Sometimes I think Td has got that something more... Blood on blood, DryCounty show somekind of the same songwriting process depth but all in all probably Td is my fave...

Damn straight u r going to start world war III!!!!

These days (in my opinion), is the second worst BJ album eva released (behind the self titled).....Just think BJ released slippery, NJ, and KTF (all backing up great albums), then these days let down the team!!!

These days is the only BJ album where the lyrics are pessimistic, which is out of BJ's nature!!
This in turn is shown in the music that they perform too...

Out of the whole album these days, and something to believe in are good trax, and the rest are either average or poor.

One track that rates in the poor section is Hey God...I really don't like the lyrics coz all thats happening is the character is blaming God for His/Her problems!!!

Also to me Diamond ring isn't any good.

I could go on about this but I won't....other than I really don't think these days is a top BJ album

On 'Hey God' the lyrics are real and personal. most people who have had horrible things happen to them get question God, or get angry with Him, or even blame him. Alot of These Days are more personal sounding lyrics than the typical Bon Jovi. That is one reason it bombed, much like Pinkerton by Weezer bombed because the lyrics were so personal. These Days wasn't a sellout album to try and sell records. It was what the band wanted to put out at the time. they had their success with the commercial albums.
