I think it's funny that you're taking a stab at Jon as a songwriter when he's said that Richie was more involved in writing Crush than he had been anything since Slippery and New Jersey. As he put it, Richie "really stepped up to the plate" or something like that because Jon had enough material ready for Crush without any more songs being written. Jon really praised Richie's writing contribution to the Crush CD. Yes, that statement makes one think, "Wait, he's credited on almost everything on These Days and only half of Crush," but Jon has said that. It leads one to believe that some of the collaborations are more one-sided than others. Jon's also said that Bounce is much more a Jon&Richie record than any other album.
As far as solo albums, I don't see how anyone could think Stranger and Undiscovered Soul have more depth than Blaze and Destination. But, hey, depth is up to the one who percieves it. I'm certainly not going to argue about it. I just know Jon's CDs appeal to ME on more of an emotional and intellectual level. And, also, how do you really compare Jon and Richie as songwriters when there are only 3 songs Richie has released that were written solely by him? There's not enough material he's written ALONE to really compare with the material Jon has written ALONE.
These Days, I agree is a great CD with great lyrics. Though some of the songs are not among their best at all: Something For the Pain and Damned leave a lot to be desired. Still, I enjoy all their CDs.
