Jon likes to talk about staying true to his roots but (in my opinion) that album was a mistake on his part.

I also disagree with Jon who has said in a few interviews that the fans made him aware that they didn't want their memories messed with. I honestly don't think that has anything to do with it. I am a long time Bruce fan - and he reworks his old stuff all the time - sometimes drastically. And sometimes it's good - and sometimes it sucks but they are his songs and he likes to reinterpret them. He does not however put out an entire album of reworked songs.

This last tour Bon Jovi tried a duet version of IBTFY that was so bad it made me cringe. Richie does a far better job singing it himself which is what they finally settled on. However, Blaze of Glory with Tico's drum intro was a good change. So it's not the change I mind but how well it's done.

I still don't think it was a mistake. And Jon said, the "messing with memories" because there was that EXACT type of thing written on the backstage board. That's where he got it.

I don't see the new arrangements as butchering the old songs but rather them showing some of the musical styles like jazz and blues that may have influenced them.

I know I'm the weird one but I listen to TLFR more than SWW.

I don't reckon it's weird. I listen to a different BJ album every week on the way to work and TLFR is one of my favs. I particuarly like It's My Life and The Distance (which I wasn't particuarly fond of when I heard it on Bounce).

I hate TLFR with a passion. It's one of the only 2 BJ releases I don't own (the other is the lame OWN). My friend had it so thankfully I could review it first before I bought it. I'm glad I did.

Only really like Born to be my baby, It's my life and everyday. I'll be there for you, Livin on a prayer, the soft porn version of Bad medicine and the Peter Gabriel version of Lay your hands on me (yes I am aware that I've made this critique more than once) I can't stand. The rest are just ok.

Yep, I agree with you. I loved it from the get go. I completly loved how they changed the song. So I guess I agree its how they change the songs. I personally loved the changes. I didn't think they butchered them. I think they did some cool stuff with them. I think their influences did come into play and made one funky, cool album.

The messing with memories thing was just acknowledging that many of you didn't like it. I love how he says that and then says too bad I love it and will play it anyways.

I really like IML and Wanted, but the rest is just crap. They should have stuck to the plan and released the recordings from japan(yokahama). Jon said that these recordings was only ok so he wanted to do something more for the fans. So wrong of him. This was a big mistake just as not to include Stay on the Crushalbum. A sure hit.

I like a few of the songs. Wanted, Bad Medicine, Bad Name, Everyday and Born To Be My Baby aren't bad at all IMO, and I LOVE this version of It's My Life. The rest of the tracks, while I don't hate them, I could live without.

Totally agree. I really liked the ballad version of Runaway - sometimes I prefer that, sometimes the original - so I'm not against them experimenting. Rather than a whole album, they should have used the songs as b-sides on the next set of singles or something. That way, we could all hear them, but wouldn't be forced to have an album full of it.

Another thing that gets me is that they took the love songs, the ballads, and turned them into love songs, ballads, that sound a wee bit different from the original. It might have been a more well received album if they took songs like She's A Mystery and attempted to make a better job of them this time.
