Well, as far as albums go, I would probably rate this number 3 or 4--behind these days, ktf, and Jersey. I like it a bit better than crush I think, although It's My Life is much better (and fresher) than Everyday.

I remember I was a camp counselor the summer before Bounce was released and my friend snuck into the camp to give me a bootleg cut of Everyday (with the hideous and creep kiss-fm) along with some old bon jovi songs (because I didn't have all my cds) and it was GREAT! During quiet hour (when all the kids were supposed to be studying or sleeping or being quiet) I got on the intercom and started singing Everyday and Bed of Roses with another counselor complete with air guitars. It was loads of fun. Kids loved it (and they were classical musicians).

I have another friend who actually performed a dance to Undivided with her company in NY and she got a kick out of it and doesn't even like Bon Jovi. That song is another one that is great live too. Reminds me of Metallica without that little slimeball Larse.

The only song that grates on me, casts a shadow over the entire album, and convinces me they were on autopilot (or were forced to write this song) is aaly. I really do like their powerballads generally, but this was bad. The lyrics are trite, silly and...pimp-ish. HAHA. I just picture some ridiculous rapper in his Fubu explaining to his Boo how he cheated on her, but how he is still 'all about lovin you, boo' 'cuz she's 'one fine azz bi tch.' It's stupid. There is nothing timeless in the lyric (as there is in Always and Bed of Roses and I'll be There For You) therefore the canned chord progression is useless and the entire package is easily forgotten. Geat video though haha!

But the good far outweighs the bad, and I can remember many car rides and gettogethers with Bounce as there soundtrack. The Distance is my favorite track because it plays like a movie and is just a beautiful lyrical narrative. I knew it was my favorite the first time I heard it. The lyric grabs you right away. I don't know why they didn't release this as a single. Record company screw up--they screwed every marketable thing out of this album.

Also, I remember hearing Bounce on the radio one time on a midnight shift with my mate in the car and we flipped out, but that was it. Another great live song. When I listen to this album, I am always left feeling better about things and I am always left with a soar throat. The other ballads are nice for a quite drive home or when it's just you and your guitar and your girl near the end of an evening. Nothing too high, very close to you...very calm. It's very nice and that's why I think many people don't feel it fits--bon-jovi isn't known for writing 'nice' songs. Something--in the lyrics, the delivery, or the musicality--is always tough or raw. But that doesn't mean this isn't a good quality. It's just hard to make it fit onto any bon-jovi album. You just have to accept that it is a part of who they are (even though it is different) and then it fits. Love Me Back To Life is a lot of fun because I love to sing along with it and the lyrics are good enough to not get bored. I remember having contests with my partner on shifts to see who (and how many times) could hit the big 'make me feeeeel iiiiiit' with the most 'passion' when we were singing along doing drive arounds.
What a goof that was. Misunderstood isn't anything great and it shouldn't have been a single, but it isn't bad and it's a lot of fun. It's my friend's second favorite track after hook me up, which is another great one live (and on cd).

Hell, I can even remember singing aaly in the car just to see if I could hit that last "all about lovin' you.' So it can't be all bad.

HAHA

Keba,
I love Bounce. It's in my top 3 for BJ records behind These Days and KTF. I think lyrically and vocally it's a great record.

I like Bounce aswell, specially "undivided", "The Distance" and "Joey". No doubt that the album never reached what we expected after Crush but still it's better than Crush.
My rating of Bounce will be number 5 after KTF, NJ, TD and Slippery When Wet dammed I like that album, it's full of power

I've always liked Bounce, I remember getting it too... as I "became" a fan with Crush this was the first album I actively bought (if you get what I mean). I thought it was really good, although I've never really been too fond of Undivided, I think the lyrics are really bad with that song!! On the whole I like all the songs on it, with The Distance, Right Side of Wrong and AALY (yes, I'm one of the rare ones who like that song!! ) being my favs.

Good topic Keba! Nice to see everyone being positive for a change!

Definently a great album. I do love it very much for it has produced 3 of my favorite Bon Jovi songs of all time! Bounce, Undivided, The Distance.

Reading the posts was very ineresting...
some of you like different songs, some dislike others
I guess it depends if your more of a rocker or a ballad person, jusging by the songs you listed

Everday is the best IMO, great song for live performance too
(Jon calims the song that was underrated in the media- for the life of me I cant understand why)
personally I like it both in the original and TLFR version

One thing about AALY-if you want to give it a real chance, don't watch the video
(qute idea- but the make up person over did it...)
watch the footage off the German TV show- TV TOTAL- an acoustic performance- than make up your mind...

Right Side is amazing stroytellers song- And I agree Dave shines here
Bounce- bouncy
Joey- Inspirational

in retrospect Bounce is good- not the best but definatly some songs are great

I like the Bon Jovi ballades, but even for me you had me from hello and open all night are too much for me- I can only wonder what other ballades could have been instead...
