According to several sources, Aerosmith sold 150 million records, and U2 sold 145.

The point is the numbers are exaggerated. If we look at certifications, there's no way these three acts reached these numbers. Same for all the other big acts.

A.Bon Jovi is bigger than Aerosmith in the US. Aerosmith hasn't released a successfull album here in over a decade. They also don't sell out arenas anymore either.

B.These numbers aren't made up. Are you familiar with Soundscan?

A. According to RIAA, Aerosmith sold 66.5 million albums. While Bon Jovi sold 34.5 million albums.
Aerosmith is bigger than Bon Jovi. You can't change it.

B. You can't prove the worldwide numbers. It has nothing to do with Soundscan, I was talking worldwide. I know Bon Jovi has several uncertified albums in the US, but that's not the point.

Best regards.

That's like saying 'N Sync is bigger than Bon Jovi because they sold 50 million records in the US. Aerosmith first has more albums than Bon Jovi. Second, I'm talking now, not 20 or 25 years ago.

With your logic, Bon Jovi is bigger than Led Zeppelin

And 'N Sync sold 28 million albums in the US. So Bon Jovi is bigger...

If Aerosmith has more albums than Bon Jovi, it's not their fault. Aerosmith is bigger. Bon Jovi was bigger in the 00s, but that's not enough.

Best regards.

Of course it's not their fault. I'm just saying, they've had a good 11 years on Bon Jovi. What do you expect?

Why is it not enough? Do we need to get into discussing the current state of record sales to show why it isn't what it used to be?

Aerosmith had to cancel shows as far back as the 90's due to poor ticket sales in the US. Don't recall Bon Jovi ever having done that.

What has Aerosmith done since 2000? Released 1 studio album I believe. The last big success they had was Get A Grip which was in 1993. Nine Lives and Just Push Play sold about 3 million records combined.

According to RIAA, Bon Jovi sold 5,5 million 00s albums in the US, while Aerosmith sold 4 million 00s albums. The difference is really small, considering Bon Jovi worked hard during the decade. That's why I said it's not enough.
Bon Jovi was bigger in the 00s, but Aerosmith was (a lot) bigger in other decades.

Aerosmith cancelled shows in 1998, but it was due to Tyler's knee ligament injury. They played more than 400 shows during the Get a Grip/Nine Lives tours.

Also their 90s albums were bigger than Bon Jovi.
Get a Grip, released in the Grunge era, was a monster hit (7x Platinum). While "Keep the Faith" and "These Days" were commercial failures there. "Nine Lives" wasn't really big, but still 2x Platinum. And don't forget their biggest hit: I Don't Want to Miss a Thing.
Just Push Play was as big as Have a Nice Day or Lost Highway.

When you compare two bands, you should include everything. Not only the last two or three years.

Anyway, we are going off-topic. End of discussion.

Best regards.

Bon Jovi was bigger in the '80s , Aerosmith was bigger in the '90s and Bon Jovi was bigger in the '00s- the winner is Bon Jovi.
