Alec sure looked the part, and had all the rock star qualities. He also added cool back vocals, even tho he was maybe too screechy sometimes it was still impressive. You get the feeling sometimes tho listenin to old live recordings that he'd have trouble with anythin but the most simple lines bass wise. Hugh is by far the better player technically, didnt necessarily want/need to stand in the soptlight, suited everyone??

But who knows what Alec would have been like today....no one will know.

Alecs back vocals on Bad Name ruined the entire song for me until 1995. It was horrible! But I can't deny he had a great stage presence.

I appreciate Hugh McDonald's talent and presence a lot and I'm really glad to see him in Bon Jovi but Alec was a great bass player too, actually the songs which Alec played have more catchy bass lines. I thought Alec was fired because of his mistakes while playing live, that's what was said on vh1 behind the music. Anyway hugh is an amazing bass player and I like watching him on stage

And that would be the point that the arse completely falls out of your argument.

Well said. Bass playing is an integral part of any band and anyone who looks down on it because "durr, it's only 4 strings" is way off.

I think Alec played on some songs on the first four records, with Hugh as a studio clean up player, called in when needed. However, I've never thought Alec played on KTF. That record has a totally different, and much more Hugh-style bass sound.

Well said. Alec never nailed the KTF lick right while Hugh played it dead on to how it is on the record. The earlier records are questionable but my money is on Hugh playing 100% from '92 forwards.

Jon had these guys under his contract and didn't pay them what they thought they were worth. So first it was blamed on the long tour and then Jon being a bigger star than Richie. BS

If either one of them made it big solo 90', Bon Jovi would have been done! (Blaze was successful but record sales were nothing compared to Bon Jovi's.)
This is absolute utter bullshit.
