Is anyone really surprised that the didn't make the list, considering it was voted by 200 industry people/performers?

Obviously I'd have the Jovi in there myself, but anyone who thinks that's a bad list is kidding themself. A few wank artists in there (I fail to see how The Police are better than Tom Waits) but it has pretty much all the important artists.

AGREED .. sad to see just one person posting that though .. I don't like everyone on that list but I though think that that list BUT it's more or less accurate .. sorry for those wanting always Bon Jovi number one .. we have to be a little bit more realistic

yes FOR ME Bon Jovi should have make the list as it is not the top 10 but to the 100 artists
but I am absolutely not suprised they are not in though ...
Richie made the show though as he commented in there

I didn't think they should be #1. But to include Coldplay on there and not Bon Jovi is simply assanine.

Yeah adding coldplay was quite dumb, but if they were replaced Bon Jovi might not have been the first to make the jump...considering Metallica, Guns N' Roses and AC/DC all didnt make the list.

Or Def Leppard. Or Motley Crue. Those may be personal choices, but you're right about GNR and AC/DC.

I'm not saying I agree with the list but I think you all are missing some of the elements that went into making this list in your "where's Bon Jovi?" frenzy. I only watched the episode of the 1-20 artists but most of the time they talked about not only the music but how their music was influential and the art of their stage presence, effect they had on future musicians and pop culture in addition to the music and songwriting. If Bon Jovi's career bodywork was only from 1983-2000, their catalog would look better to outsiders, IMO.

Would I have put Bon Jovi in there? Yeah, for sure but using VH1's criteria, I don't think they have any place maybe near the top 30.

It's not the Top 100 Most Successful Artists List...

And many lists will continue that way. Most of the artists gaining fame these days will never hold a candle to many of the artists on this list.

Also, it's not like Bon Jovi's glory days were figuratively yesterday

Because I guess the world isn't according to Jack . IMO The Police were better for the short time they were together minus the latest money-grabbing reunion tour they just did (which I admittedly went to).

I agree it's a pretty good list and fits the criteria VH1 set up. I think the problem for BJ is no one knows where to put them. They didn't create the genre they started out in, they just did it better and more commercially successfully than anyone else. Then they managed to transcend their genre and go on and become even more successful despite the fact that they had no critical backing. There are very few BJ's in the business, and by all accounts it shouldn't work , they are more of an anomoly than a norm , so when it comes to lists no one really knows what to do with them.
