That might be what i'm getting at - lol - i feel though that the band really wanted to sound heavy, but due to the overload of production, it just feels forced, or perhaps electronic, as you've stated.

**not including bonus tracks as they not on my version

Really strange album the heavy/faster songs are immense and much better than anything off Crush but they are let down by the terrbile production. I was also working for Universal at the time and went to a lot of listening parties and got a ton of freebies for this album (incl a 2003 calender with the Everyday single in and a BJ fact every page on the calender - i still have it its in immaculate condition and still in the box)
Ill never forget being at the listening party and hearing the opening the riffs to Undivided and thinking that they must be playing the new Metallica album by mistake. I was amazed. Everyday was Jovi by numbers but still had that hard edge to it and The Distance give this album a solid start. But then the album dips. I think the track order may have something to do with it. It seems it goes fast song, slow song, slower song, fast song, slow song. This album also features one of 3 most awful ballads the band have ever wrote in AALY. I still think there are one too many slow songs and if the album lost AALY and YHMFH then there would be a lot more faster/harder songs and this album would be killer. I also really dont like RSOW the song is JBJ trying to be Springsteen and failing....badly.
I still enjoy it but as said the production and the order of the songs are terrible.

14 Undivided
13 Open All Night (contrary to the opinion of the vast majority, I think it´s one the most beautiful love songs they´ve written)
12 Bounce
11 Hook Me Up
10 Misunderstood
09 Everyday
08 All About Lovin´You
07 Right Side Of Wrong
06 You Had Me From Hello (why do they bring it down just when it starts to sound interesting?)
05 Joey
04 Postcards (it´s actually a great song but it is sang too low and sounds too much like a raw demo)
01 No Regrets
0 Love Me Back To Life
0 The Distance

The flow of the record is terrible. Not only the styles of the songs change often, their quality differs a lot, too.
But the record has some great songs and I would love to see the guys play some of these songs more often. For me this record is stronger than LH and TC.

When I first heard Bounce, I decided (with all the "careful consideration" that only a 16 year old is capable of ) that it was my favourite Bon Jovi album ever. Needless to say this changed very quickly, and now it is in my bottom 3 of the bands albums. As others have said, its not a bad album as such, it's just terribly disjointed - it feels like the band set out to make about four different albums (especially if you take the b-sides into consideration - with songs like We Can Dance and Breathe, there's a whole other acousticy/rootsy/folky subsection that never even made the album) and mashed it together into one album. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with musical diversity on one album, but I think the fact that they sort of tried to market it as a semi concept album about 9/11 just confused people, and drew unfavourable comparisons to Bruce Springsteen's The Rising album.

There is about half of a good album in there though. The heavy songs generally work (although the production on them is far from the best - attempting to be simultaneously heavier and more poppy than ever was always going to be difficult), the love ballads less so (I do kind of have a soft spot for AALY though), and the epic ballads are a decent attempt at something different, although falling a little short of greatness. It also as an album seemed to take itself a little too seriously - with the exception of Misunderstood (which sounds totally out of place), the sense of fun and playfulness that was good about Crush had almost totally disappeared - instead our band seemed to be coldly trying to emulate just about everyone else - Metallica, Creed, Springsteen, Elton John, Eric Clapton - and forgot to just be Bon Jovi. To conclude then, Bounce is definitely an interesting album - but not always for the right reasons.

14. Undivided (I'm so glad I didn't listen when this was leaked and heard it for the first time live at Wembley Arena instead)
13. The Distance
12. Right Side Of Wrong
11. Hook Me Up
10. Everyday
9. Bounce
8. Love Me Back To Life
7. Joey
6. All About Lovin' You
5. Misunderstood
4. No Regrets
3. Postcards From The Wasteland
2. Open All Night (one of very few songs I actually like less after hearing it live)
1. You Had Me From Hello (probably the wimpiest Bon Jovi ballad ever)

It’s my 3rd fav post 00’ album and I think it’s really underrated over here. Those rock songs are the kind of BJ I simply love. That’s why as you can see all of them are on the top side of my list, with Undivided as one of the best songs written in the last 15 years for me. I’ve got some mixed feelings about Misunderstood, too pop for me, but it’s catchy and great for acoustic guitar to play at home. I also really like YHMFH and Joey. The only songs I don’t like that much are the bottom 5, especially the bonus tracks.

Yes that would be hilarious. On some Youtube clips Jon´s voice can barely be heard because everyone in the GC and DC are screaming the obvious F-word.
