JOVITALK TRACK RANKINGS 2012 RESULTS

HAVE A NICE DAY

A lot of discussion on this one - lyrics, bonus tracks, demos, country sound, Shanks... it was all debated. So here is how the 33 of us voted for Have a Nice Day - the 7th best record by the band as voted by Jovitalk members.

~

#15. Wildflower
[92 Points]

Does anyone really care why a wildflower grows? Not likely by the looks of things. The bonus tracks copped plenty of zeroes (more than usual) for HAND, but not even they finished lower than poor Wildflower. Over 50% of us rank it as the worst song on the album. It now sits in 3rd place for the worst rated song on an album, behind only Social Disease and She's A Mystery.

~

#14. Unbreakable
[147 Points]

The lowest ranking bonus track on Have a Nice Day is Unbreakable. Had it non been a bonus track it would have finished a little higher as it's second most recieved score was a 1 & 9.

~

#13. These Open Arms
[168 Points]

These Open Arms comes in at position 13, one place higher than 2008. It seems the love for this song has grown a fair bit in recent years with its highest score (other than zeroes) was an impressive 11. Similar to Unbreakable, had These Open Arms been on all studio versions of the album, it would have finished a lot higher.

~

#12. Complicated
[190 Points]

In at 12th is Complicated, which unfortunately sits in the same low spot it sat in 2008. The song defeinitely has its fans - Over 1/4 of voters gave it a score 10 or higher. But the song scored very average amongst the rest of the voters. In fact the votes for Complicated were quite evenly spread between 0 to 12.

~

#11. Who Says You Can't Go Home
[192 Points]

Just edging ahead of Complicated is the infamous Who Says. The song takes a bit of a tumble since 2008, falling 2 places. The big debate this time around was not the fact that it was (turned into) a country song. It was more about the fact that it is played at every show and considered a major hit in Jon's eyes. Some people who rated the song low even mentioned tht they have no problem with the song itself. There were a few people though that didnt like the song because of the country influence it had on the band. Whether you like or not though, it did earn the band a Grammy so that has to count for something.

~

#10. Welcome to Wherever You Are
[213 Points]

"Remember that you're perfect... God makes no mistakes." It's funny how a single line can cause so much discomfort amongst fans. There were even reports of vomitting and headaches caused from the one line . Welcome to Wherever You Are broke the mould of the traditional ballad released as a single from an album in the way that it was not a love ballad. The song scored evenly between 2 and 13, despite taking the biggest fall from 2008 where it finished 6th.

~

#9. Last Cigerette
[224 Points]

Last Cigerette comes in at 9th, with yet another evenly spread of votes ranging from 3 to 13 (while also collecting a few 14s and 0s). There were a few people defending the song and expressed there confusion as to why the song received so much criticsm. The song also took a fair fall since 2008 where it finished in a more respectable 5th place.

~

#8. Novocaine
[267 Points]

It seems fitting for a song that usually divides fans to finish in the middle of the pack. Exactly 50% of people ranked Novocaine in their top half on the album, leaving the other 50% to rank it in their bottom half. Despite such a divide, the song seems to have found favour with a few more people considering it has risen 3 places since 2008.

~

#7. Bells of Freedom
[271 Points]

Just ahead of Novocaine is Bells of Freedom in 7th. The song rises one place since 2008 and even managed to score a top score of 15 from a voter. Keeping with the rest of the album, Bells of Freedom also scored quite evenly without any standout main vote.

~

#6. Story Of My Life
[284 Points]

One of the big risers since 2008 is Story of my Life which finished 4 places higher this time around. Surprisingly the song didnt score as many high votes as the songs that finished in 8th and 9th, but it was the only song other than the top 2 rated tracks to not recieve a vote of 0.

~

#5. Dirty Little Secret
[294 Points]

Depsite falling 2 places since 2008, Dirty Little Secret finishes very high considering it recieved five votes of 0 (mainly because it is a bonus track). The track received equal second most amount of top scores, with over half of us giving it a double digit score. In fact, Dirty Little Secret has now overtaken Walk Like a Man and Neurotica as the highest rated bonus track on an album (ranked so far).

~

#4. I Am
[310 Points]

Whether you believe that Nothing is better than I Am or not, there is no arguing with the results I Am received. It finishes in 4th place and scrapes into the 300+ club on the album. Over 60% of us gave the track a vote of 10 or higher, with just a handful of people giving it a score of 2 or less. The song climbs 3 places higher since 2008.

~

#3. I Want to be Loved
[312 Points]

It was a close battle between 3rd and 4th, but I Want to be Loved finally hits the pedestal in 3rd place after finishing 4th in 2008. It was largely commented that the lyrics of this song is what makes it such a great track. They are touching and sweet without being cheesy like WTWYA. The song's most received vote was a tie between 7 and 11.

~

#2. Last Man Standing
[369 Points]

Well ahead of 3rd and 4th but not enough to finish 1st is Last Man Standing in second place. The track received a decent serving of 15 and 14 scores and was only one of three songs to not receive a vote of 0. There was great debate about whether the HAND version of Last Man Standing is better than the box set version. As seen from the results, the HAND version is very well liked, whether the box set version is better or not. The song finishes second best, just like it did in 2008 to the title track and lead single...

~

#1. Have a Nice Day
[450 Points]

Some would have thought that it would've been a tight battle for first place... but it wasn't. Have a Nice Day finishes well ahead of the rest of the pack, and is the only song on the album to reach over 400 points (50 more to be exact!). 13 of us rank it as the best song on the album, while another 9 of us rank it second best. The song scored so successfully that it received nothing lower than an 8. It now sits in second place behind Undivided as the standout track on an album (ranked so far).

FINAL TALLY

HAND had the most songs that had such an even spread of votes, ranging from low scores to high scores.

And just to quote myself on the previous page because most people may not notice it...

There were several people who voted and left off one or two songs. It makes it confusing for me because I cant be sure whether you are giving it a zero or if you have accidentally missed a song (especially if the track is not a bonus track).

And secondly, please don't copy and paste the person's votes before you and change them to suit your scores. Some people may have missed a few songs or left them out, so if you copy and paste theirs then you might miss out on a song as well. If you do copy and paste, please make sure all songs are there.

And finally, please don't vote for songs that clearly aren't on the track listing. Eg. giving points to Edge of a Broken Heart or giving two scores to WSYCGH (one for the country version and one for the rock version). It just makes the scoring even more confusing as I dont count any votes for songs that are not on the opening post of the thread or votes that are awarded to the same song.

Thanks to all the people who are following these guides and clearly posting their scores. It really is appreciated - especially when there are 40 people voting!

Results will be up soon.

I'm surprised at Unbreakable, but then I suppose being a bonus track does have its drawbacks. I find it funny that I seem to like most of the songs that the rest of JT hate.
