I remember hearing how George Carlin described his religious history once. He said he really, really, really tried to believe in God, as hard as he could, but in the end he just couldn't sell himself short enough to do it. That pretty much sums up my history with this album. I tried to find as many good things as I could on it, but in the end there's only 3 songs I think would make any other album, outside of Bounce. I see it as a concept album, nothing more, a nice experiment that I'm glad they're proud of. Enough.
I think Whole Lot Of Leavin' is a genuinely great song, and hope it stays around in sets. Chances are they'll play Lost Crapway and WGIGO instead though, which is a shame, because both are terrible, terrible songs outside of their guitar solos. Any Other Day is vastly overrated, and Jon has basically destroyed any goodwill it built amongst fans, but it and Memory are both good songs. The only other track I particularly like on this album is, oddly enough, One Step Closer. I realize it's mediocre by Jovi standards, but shit, I like the chorus. So....
14. Whole Lot Of Leavin'
13. Any Other Day
12. Make A Memory
11. One Step Closer
10. Walk Like A Man
01. The Last Night
00. Everybody's Broken
00. Lonely
00. We Got It Goin' On
00. Seat Next To You
00. I Love This Town
00. Put The Boy Back Cowboy
00. Lost Highway
00. Summertime
00. Till We Aint Strangers Anymore
I would give the last two negative points if possible. It's not that Strangers is even a bad song; indeed it would be quite good if the country ditz wasn't singing in it. But that music video basically destroyed the song for me.
