And we thought we had to be something else, we had to chase that, hanging around with those kind of kids, L.A. and finding your sisters make-up and all that goofy stuff we used to do . This isn’t really where we’re from or what we do, but ok. We came home and wrote a record called SWW, and the album cover is a hefty garbage bag squirted with water and I took my fingers and wrote Slippery When Wet and that was one of the biggest selling albums of all time. Why? Because we came home. We did what we do naturally.

I don't buy that for a second. It's a middle aged guy making excuses to the newly found 12 year old fans (as he said himself) as to why exactly he wore pink leather pants and eyeliners. It's BS. It's trashing his old fans. It's sucking up to the hip kids of today.
I lived the 80s - I wore the thight jeans and colorful scarves. My boyfriends had longer hair and wore more make up than I did. None of us pretended to be something else. It was fashionable as hip huggers are today. No deep psychological reasoning other than going with the trend and enjoying every moment of it.
To come out and say they only did it to pretend being somebody else gives merit to all the poser-haters of the 80s that would give me a hard time for listening to BJ and Motley and GnR. Idiot!
And wtf is that SWW comment? They were still wearing make up at that point - tight pants - long hair - the whole package - how is that coming home to earthly NJ? Don't even dare to suggest SWW was much different than New Jersey in the sense that now you came clean and SWW it who you really are but NJ isn't -------- ............

I agree with you totally ...it's like everything the guys have done before has to be 'politically corrected' or trendily corrected ... it's how the 80's were no need to pretend it wasn't this way ... all band were wearing purple leather/spandex pants ... anyway this transcript is priceless because it shows me how much things have changed (or how things are said differntly regarding who is the audience ) ... someone wrote here that it was totally perfectly prepared and canned almost a political speech that's right and the target were NOT the fans at all but a new audience that need to be secured .. no no if you appreciate JBJ new lok you are not loving a long haired guy but a very aware in money business guy .. be secured !! it was done to show how JBJ is NOT the rock star he used to be , no no be safe and relax everybody he is not that guy anymore .. (I heard some funny comments about the regular rock star IMAGE of musician HIGH all day long who don't wake up before 5pm are drunk all day and don't even know what is money ... this is such a cliche you can be musician be creative enjoy your job for 40 years love music and exactly know how to make money and not lose what you gain and without needing to be promoted as a marketer entrepreneur business very serious man ) .. well ...
I have felt trashed too and this for a lil while already because I feel like the ppl who love(d ) BON JOVI because they are (were) a rock band are all kinda "old fashioned" today let's love BJ because Jon is a successful entrepreneur marketer and business man and football team owner .. it's like take it or leave leave it if you don't like Jon soul man you don't really like the real Jon (lol who is the real Jon ?) .... well at the minute the music part of BJ will not be existing anymore and will be announced as such I will be a fan of the band that was called Bon Jovi .. today I am still a regular bon jovi fan...
