How many dull songs are big hits just cause they get played over and over on radio?

Poor sales figures = related to poor airplay.
Is a song like IML better than WWBTF ? I don't think so, but one got a great video & killer airplay, the other didn't. Hence, no one knows it and no one buys it.
Even though I'm a pro-new media kinda girl these days, I agree this is a factor. Most people don't want new music, they want stuff they know. Those listeners then start to like something as it becomes familiar. Most people are also only casually listening when the radio's on (i.e. it's background noise for driving or work or whatever) so repeated airplay is pretty important. That said, most stations aren't that keen on playing new Bon Jovi stuff and instead of crying about the record company, it's up to the band to find ways to promote their music if they believe in it.

WWBTF is terrible compared to It's My Life, whether you like IML or not.

^^I agree, IML is a way better song than WWBTF. And im not a huge fan of IML, prefer their deeper stuff but still...

Back in 2000 it was impossible to get out of your head, so catchy and so much energy in it. Also it was a fresh sound for them at the time, whereas WWBTF does not stand out in any way.

THe IML sound has since been recycled many times but you've got to judje the songs in the context of when they were released and in that sense IML is just in a different league from WWBTF. Promotion is important but quality of songs and ability to get people's attention is also a major factor. If they had released Broken Promiseland or Love's the Only Rule as the first single who knows....

That’s exactly what I meant. Announce it ahead of time and advertise it in some special way on their official website, so it would be clear that only on this exact show they will play the entire album. Those who don’t like TC can go to any other show on the tour to hear old big hits and would naturally avoid this show. But those who love it would get a clear invitation to wonderland I think.
And by the way I think it would be mostly for the fans pleasure not for the band to stroke their ego like you say.
