Default type of people that like bon jovi

hi all!!
i was just reading the topic on why people hate bon jovi and it got me thinking about the people who like bon jovi.

i believe that people who like bon jovi music dont just listen to the song but think about the lyrics and how they relate to themselves, their lives, appreciate the guitar and live versions etc(i.e music fans not fashion fans)
as appose to pop music when the lyrical context is secondary to the beat, image etc!

my music teacher said to me that pop music is very music like fast food, people want it now,eat it up and within no time at all finished with it,whereas bon jovi's music is like a sunday roast.......never get bored of it and the anticipation for it never ends!

Iīm sorry but I think you are misinterpreting the concept about pop music. Pop is not a genre or music taste, itīs a status. Metallica became pop and continue doing their heavy metal sound (of course, with a more up-to-date appeal). Bon Jovi is pop, whether you want it or not. Itīs mainstream. Thatīs not a bad thing. Michael Jackson is the "king of pop" music and his lyrics are usually very powerful and always say something cool. I know exactly what you mean by saying that, but we shouldnīt have prejudice against pop music. There is the good one, and the other one which is not related directly to art, but commerce.

Anyways... I like Bon Jovi because I love hard rock music and I guess their sound is pretty cool. Itīs just entertainment, you know... thereīs one song which lyrics have touched me very deep... "Something To Believe In". Need I say more about it? Donīt think so, the music and the lyrics speak for themselves

P.S.: so glad Iīm a Keep The Faith now here at Jovitalk, lol... never thought Iīd get to 100 messages. I think I should talk less

I can only speak for myself, but for me, the most important part of any song is the lyrics and vocals. I don't care how good a band sounds, if the lyrics are something I can't relate to, I won't run out and buy the CD. And if the singer isn't any good, I won't buy it either. I don't want to offend anyone by naming names, but there's a very popular band right now that really sounds pretty good and has decent lyrics, but their singer sounds awful, so I just can't buy it! LOL

The reason I remain a Bon Jovi fan is the lyrical content combined with Jon's voice and the fact that they grow as musicians. If they kept writing the same songs over and over again like certain bands (again, no names), I wouldn't be the kind of fan I am. I think Bon Jovi lyrics appeal to a certain kind of person. We may be very different on a lot of levels, but I think Bon Jovi appeals to people who have a basic sense of goodness and decency. Most of the fans really seem to have good hearts and kind intentions and I think it's that kind of person who finds the value in Bon Jovi. But that's just my take on things.

@ meggar: it depends on how you interpret the word "pop"- on the one hand it's a music style (backstreet boys, n'sync, roxette,...) which characteristics are many ballads and not too heavy tunes to get into the rock genre- that doesn't exclude some rocky tunes e.g. dirty diana (jackson) or hot blooded (roxette)
on the other hand the word itself is just a short form for "popular" which would mean that everything which is POPULAR= liked by a big crowd is pop(ular) this would make bj a pop band- although they make (or have made) rock music....
@captaincrash: i don't think that many bj fans really think about the lyrics- dave describes bj as a big bar band which wants to entertain people- they want us to have a good time... for doing that they don't need any sophisticated lyrics- though they seem to change that with bounce... but esp in the old lyrics there is not really much i can relate on- for sure: who can't relate to ballads- but bj is far away from lyrics with special intentions or deeper background except songs like prayer, runaway- but there are not many of them. i also think that they don't want to be the big wise ones like sting

I like the analogy about the Fast food & Sunday Roast. Its true that alot of chart music gets listened too - its catchy so ppl buy it, listen to it twice & throw it away. & the band/ 'DJ' that produced it becomes obsolete.

BJ takes some getting into (I found) but once its ready its the best meal you'll ever eat!!

In my opinion Bon Jovi are a band that you are going to like for a LONG time (if not for life!), band that make the charts often are usually bands that only last for a few years. :P

Bands like Kiss, U2, Aerosmith and Beatles have what we call cult followings. The Roast comparsion I think is a good way of looking at it. I enjoy some lighter heavy metal bands but am not into really heavy metal. BJ are I feel are soft metal hence the large appeal

My opinio

With Bon Jovi you never get the feeling of boredom, you always have a great time with them. Their (real) love towards music, their lyrics and their voices (Jon,Richie) makes the music so vivid and long lasting. I think that they, even as Aerosmith or U2, have worked very hard through all the years and always did their thing, this is one reason to love BJ, in my opinion. Isn't it true, that in the pop world it's very important how the singer looks, what he wears, what choreography he makes, how he moves etc. ? I don't look at kinda things by BJ, it's unimportant for me in general.(ok, they're no choreographies)
Another reason is, that they always play live at their shows, there are no playbacks.
