One thing I've always wondered is - how come no tribute band I've listened to can get the talk-box riff in LOAP to sound right? And I agree with Ice, the singer does try too hard to sound like Jon and fails to sound 'natural' in the song's delivery-style.

Have to listen to the solos again as I am only going from memory of the IDFY solo which I always thought was pretty much note perfect.

As someone who has actually seen this band live, can I say I enjoyed their performance. Not bad at all.

the thing with the talkbox is because it's your throat you use everyone is going to sound different even if they're using the exact same setup that richie used. Same idea as eric clapton being able to sound great on aŁ30 classical guitar and someone who cant play for shit sounding crap on a 59 les paul.

n thierry mate i wasn't slagging anyone I was just pointing out that although not perfect, there's no way the tracks on the site can come under that much criticism.

It's not actually that dependent on the individual, more the technique you use when shaping your mouth. I hear many trib bands with talkboxes and the technique they use is really lazy shaping of the mouth which creates more of a wah-wah sound rather than the true execution of the riff. Having a talk-box myself, I find it's not really all that difficult to generate the 'true' sound of the effect and I use almost identical equipment to that of other trib acts - a Heil talkbx + Shure SM57 with a Marshall JCM2000 DSL50.

It's a case of using more exaggerated but controlled mouth movement whilst opening the throat simultaneously. Holding your breath or using circular breathing techniques helps too as you can take the sound deeper into your throat to shape it and produce a thicker bass-ier tone rather than the thin wah a lot of tribute bands use.
