As a Bon Jovi fan that has seen Metallica twice (And Justice For All and the Black album) I have to say that Metallica does come out on top. I am not that much of a fan though. If Bon Jovi would go for what Metallica does then I would put them above Metallica. They do have the ability to do so..but it means Jon needs to start concentrating on the caliber of his performance and stop being afraid to pull out the stops set list wise. By this I don't mean "we'll play These Days tonight." I mean "We'll play Dry County, slip in Fear, we'll play All I Want Is Everything on American dates, we'll play Hardest Part is the Night updated to match our improved musicianship." Just break out of the mold. It's all about balance.

The one thing I can give the band is they do represent the album they are touring for. Some would disgress simply because they don't like that album...but once they start focusing on the past, then it's over. Every album should have it's spotlight on tour at least once, three songs performed live does not constitute adequate representation. Once that starts...you should be worried, hate the album or not. Because then when they do produce an album that you love...by then they will only play 2 or 3 songs and then you'll be bi***ing.

I see what he means though, with songs like Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters. They are great ballads, and they are wriiten and performed in a very similar style to BJ.

"So close no matter how far. Couldn't be much more from the heart. Forever trust in how you are. And Nothing else matters."

I think that when you're a die hard fan of Metallica you enjoy a Metallica show more then when you're a die hard Bon Jovi fan at a Bon Jovi show as Metallica just gives better shows.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
i guess it varies, i know die hards of both bands and they prefer BJ...each to their own i guess.

When you read about reviews from die hard Bon Jovi fans you see lots are (a bit) disappointed in the performance of Bon Jovi and their setlists. When you read the reviews from die hard Metallica fans most they do is praising them for their suddenly changed stage performances and their setlists which always end with 2 extremely rare songs.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
Again I do agree with that. Metallica hasn't done this until recently and most Metallica fans are pleased with what they get. 2 rare songs is a big thing, especially when they played Dyers Eve. Not to mention their stage, which they changed again. That and they have given us www.livemetallica.com. Personally, Metallica has done a lot more to please their fans, and Jon Bon Jovi just loves to show himself off instead of getting down and playing the rare songs people want to hear. I think that if I die hard Metallica fan liked Bon Jovi better... then there would be something wrong.

Yeah, showing lawsuits down the throats of eveone trying to download your music is very fan-friendly
And just showing himself off? That's a bit strong, dontcha think?
I agree that more rare songs should be played, though...

Well I can only speak for myself and I sure love Bon Jovi to changed the setlist but I knew they won't but that doesn't mean I am disapointed about the show and that I would have enjoyed it better with another setlist. That's in my eyes nonsens. I think you can't compare Bon Jovi shows and Metellica shows. For example Shania has the same songs every night and never change anything and always makes the same comments and so on. Well her die hard fans still enjoy the shows time after time like I did with Bon jovi

That's your opinion but when looking to general Bon Jovi reviews from fans most of them are disappointed in them not changing the set, Jon always saying the same and no changes about the songs themselves. When reading Metallica show reviews most fans are saying it was a top show and couldn't have been better. Sure there are always shows that Metallica has got a bit of an off night, but when comparing it to Bon Jovi who had 5 very good shows in Europe while the rest was good to alright, Metallica is performing at a higher level.

It's because those die hard fans don't care about all the things I just mentioned. Shania Twain hasn't done all the things fans wish Bon Jovi would do since they did it in the past. Plus that Shania isn't telling in every interview how much she's changing the set while Bon Jovi do all that. Bon Jovi fans are much more critical because they know Bon Jovi is able to do all the things they're wishing for, as they've proved it in the past. They're saying they're one of the best live bands around, but other big acts like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Rolling Stones and McCartney are passing them by. That didn't happen in the nineties and eighties which upsets fans a bit.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
