I think he's underrated, cos people just see him as that guy who plays guitar in Bon Jovi, so therefore he is cheesy

But Richie is also on of the few guitarrists that has his own signature guitar, and there is at least tree different Sambora signatur guitars, not many guitarrist has that.
That doesn't necessarily make you great though - Tom Delonge has a signature strat!

The only reason Richie has so many signature guitars is that he plays/played a lot of different brands and models within brands - Kramer, Fender, Taylor and Gibson. If he only played Fender for instance, I doubt they'd bring out a signature tele, strat, doubleneck etc. just as Gibson won't make a sig Les Paul, Flying-V, ES335 and L-5 - all his signature guitars are different brands (with the exception of the 2 different strat models but that's because his style and requirements changed over the many years he was with Fender ie. he doesn't really need the Floyd Rose system and would rather have noiseless pups compared to the old PAF).

They do? I never met one exept of BJ fans.

Richie is not underrated in the professional musicians world, otherwise he wouldn't get asked so often to play for another artist but the "ordinary people" have no clue who Richie Sambora is.

Yeah I know the kinda people you mean. Those kinda people have all heard of Slash and how great he is, when I think Richie is just as good and he deserves at much credit.

I'd say that Richie is better than Slash. But Slash is the "dude with the hat and the hair from Guns N' Roses".

One thing I can say about Slash is that he's got a recognizable sound/style. I'm not comparing him to Richie, just commenting on Slash. I tuned in during the middle of a song on the radio and thought, "That sounds like Slash" and it turned out to be the new Velvet Revolver. So, for me (and I'd never paid much attention to guitar until recently) to be able to hear a guitarist and ID him was pretty cool. I hope someone at work will take me seriously since I told them I want the VR CD for Christmas. Anyway, don't take this as me saying Slash is better than Richie because I honestly don't know or care or have an opinion on who's "better." I'm newly interested in guitar, but only know what I like. I like both of their work.

having a recognisable tones and style doesn't necesarilly mean you're a better player.

i bet 75%+ of anyone listening to a record could click that the dge was playing as opposed to someone like slash or eric clapton on account of the delay and chorus going on but it doesn't mean he's a better player.

by the same token, Slash has a token sound of a boss ge7 hitting the front of a marshall amp hard and you might not necesarilly sit and think thats an equaliser going into a marshall, it must be slash, you will still hear the general tone,

exact same goes for santana. you can hear him a mile away because of his signature sound.

guys like clapton and knopfler are more recognisable because of their technique.

As I said... I don't know, care, or have an opinion on who's better. I was just commenting that Slash is someone I could recognize which was pretty cool to me. I like them both.

not to worry. i wasn;t sayign you were I mean most people could point out Jack White's tone and technique before they could Richie's but it doesn't mean a blind monkey couldn't play better than him.
