Bloomberg, VH1 announce instrument donation, concert fund raiser for schools

February 28, 2005, 2:14 PM EST

NEW YORK (AP) _ The VH1 Save the Music Foundation, which advocates for musical education, is donating more than $1 million worth of instruments to New York City public schools, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced Monday.

The donation will start 41 new music education programs in schools this year, he said. The foundation, started in 1997, has donated nearly $30 million worth of musical instruments to 1,200 public schools in 80 cities.

Bloomberg and VH1 also announced that "Save The Music: A Concert To Benefit The VH1 Save The Music Foundation" will be held in New York for the first time in four years.

The concert will be taped at the Beacon Theatre on April 11 and shown on April 17. Scheduled performers include Rob Thomas, Queen Latifah, John Legend, Bon Jovi and Joss Stone. The concert will be the final event of the "VH1 Save The Music Week" from April 4 through April 11.

Aloha !

What does Bon Jovi have got to with saving the music? They've been producing the same pop music like any other Britney Spears. The only difference is that they're claiming to be a men band, and they've thrown in a lot of distortion in their guitars to make it sound "hard and rocking"

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

A song in which they sort of complain about the music industry of which they are a part of. How odd. It would've been more believable if it would've been the first song since These Days. Not after Crush and Bounce.

Sebastiaan

The fact that you put it in a certain context doesn't take any of its quality away. It's an amazing song and I SWEAR, since I cut my hair I find it better and better each time i listen to it.

Yes it does. Madonna could do the same but would be bashed because she's a pop queen. Jon writes such a song and lots of people jump on the bandwagon because he's sooooooo right while a lot of those people listen to the sh1t Jon describes. Including Jon himself. Something that makes the song less honest.

Save the Music is about starting music programs in public schools.
with the way things are and the economy the funds from public schools are being cut off and the first thing they take are the music programs, hence the save the music thing.
sort of like keeping the kids off drugs and into music sort of thing.
