Vote for Bon Jovi as best rock band and for Richie as best Rock Guitarist!

I think that considering the company that they are in in that poll they have done very well. I don't think anybody would consider them the BEST band of all time. As Dan said - favorite perhaps - but not best. Certainly the top 5 is good company to be in.

I get The Beatles and Led Zeppelin but I just don't get Queen in that company either. I guess that's what opinions are for.

I agree. I'm a big Beatles fan. Not so much Zeppelin, but I can see why they're so highly regarded. Personally - Never understood why Queen was. My guess - Probably for the same reasons Nirvana is. Tragic early death to their frontmen.

The thing I always disliked about Queen was the overdubbing on the records. The live show simply never sounded like that.

Americans never understood Queen to be honest. They were way the best Band ever! Best frontman best guitar player - great bass player and awesome drummer. All have written hits and have songwriting skills (not just the singer and guitar player like in BJ).
To compare Queen and Nirvana and saying they're just remembered because of the premature death of their frontmen is very ignorant. But as I said Queen is more a band fpr non Americans as they dont understand their tongue in cheek humour.

Queen to Bon Jovi cannot be compared (especially not the contemporary Jovi who suck at the moment).
On the other hand I never liked the Beatles too much with their "shalala"-songs in the beginning. But they "invented" pop music

They were an awesome studio band that revolutionised recording. Just listen to the harmonies and big vocals. Amazing stuff when you remember it was all recorded analog without any pro-tools and stuff like that.
Their live show was intended to sound different. They always siad that. And that was also a plus of QUeen that they sounded live much more "raw" than on record.
Queen are Gods folks - something BJ never were. They will be remembered as a good(once great) Rock/Pop/Hairband. Queen are legends - BJ ain't. That's the difference!

I don't think so. To be honest I never heard the slightest thing about Queen until Freddie Mercury died. I knew 2 or 3 of their songs.

Nirvana gained alot more fans (myself included) after Kurt Cobain shot himself.

I don't wanna insult anybody but saying that Queen are famous because of Freddie's deat is really stupid and ignorant opinion. Until 1990 they've sold 120 milion records. That somebody discovered them after Freddie's death is his personal problem. The band is legend, their songs are famous around the whole world. Another point - Freddie died on 24th Nov 1991 in age of 45, after 18 years in music bussines, after releasing 14 studio albums - that's early??? Kurt died three years after first album - that's much different.

If you listen to their music you must hear the great professionality and harmony. Four great tallented musicians and songwriters.

There is often discussed Jon's voice how bad is these days. Listen to Freddie live in Wembley 1986 - huge (i call it steel) voice. In my opinion he was the best songer ever. Listen to Brian May' playing, the unique sound. Roger Taylor is great drummer and singer also - performing both together. I didn't care about bass players much but I'e bought speakers system with subwoofer and now I'm listenig to the bass lines. John Deacon's bass lines are suberb - sometimes you have feeling like the bass is playing as a solo instrument!

Queen deserve respect!

I think it's well documented that the US didn't "get" Queen, Bryan May once said he thought it was due to the cross-dressing 'I Want to Break Free' vid. Maybe it wasn't macho enough.

Just because something isn't huge in America, doesn't mean it's not huge in the Rest Of The World, and said band was huge with a capital H outside of the US loooooong before Freddie passed away. If you only know 2 or 3 songs, try 'A Night at the Opera'.

As for my opinion in the grand scheme of things, The Beatles, Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Queen are Premiership, anyone else is Division one which kind of renders the whole poll thing pointless.
