Another point - Freddie died on 24th Nov 1991 in age of 45, after 18 years in music bussines, after releasing 14 studio albums - that's early??? Kurt died three years after first album - that's much different.

If you listen to their music you must hear the great professionality and harmony. Four great tallented musicians and songwriters.

There is often discussed Jon's voice how bad is these days. Listen to Freddie live in Wembley 1986 - huge (i call it steel) voice. In my opinion he was the best songer ever. Listen to Brian May' playing, the unique sound. Roger Taylor is great drummer and singer also - performing both together. I didn't care about bass players much but I'e bought speakers system with subwoofer and now I'm listenig to the bass lines. John Deacon's bass lines are suberb - sometimes you have feeling like the bass is playing as a solo instrument!

Queen deserve respect!
E X A C T L Y!!!!! You rule!

I don't think Queen is famous ONLY because of Freddie's death. But it certainly didn't hurt their popularity and status. Up until his death, they'd accomplished no more than Bon Jovi had up until the same point in their career, give or take a few million albums.

FTR - Queen was relatively big in America. More so granted after Freddie's death and more specifically, Wayne's World (sad as that is). I'm just saying at the time I really started getting into rock music, it was all about Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith. Classic rock, it was about the Beatles, the Stones, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd. When talk of the "big" rock bands came up, I don't recall Queen ever entering the discussion.

So, to say America didn't "get" them, yeah - I agree with that.

It is clear that you speak from the American point of view. It's true that America found interest in Queen again AFTER Freddie's death (Bohemian Rhapsody was a huge hit in 1991/1992 - but also because it was featured in Wayne's World!).
But Queen were Huge in Europe and Japan and (especially) South America where they were the first act that toured there properly.
Don't ever mention crap like Nirvana together with Queen in one sentence. I always hated Nirvana and if it is just for the fact that they brought those "depressing mood" to the music scene and Bands like Soundgarden and Pearl Jam followed. All that "I am a Rock star and I feel so baaadddd" just sucked. Luckily Grunge did not last long! I rather go with "positive" bands like Kiss, Van Halen and Jovi that bring me into a good moood!

Well, of course I speak from the American point of view. I'm from America. I can't speak for the rest of the world.

I'm not a huge Nirvana fan myself. I like some of their music, but wouldn't label myself a "fan". I'm simply saying, there is a similiarity. Both bands were raised (at least in America) to much higher status after their respective frontmen's death.

Concerning Nirvana it might be true. Queen were big in America already in 1977 and especially 1980 with "Another One bites the dust" being Nr 1 in the Billboard charts and the album "The Game" going multiplatinum there.
SO Queen were already legends when Freddie was alive!

Would you consider Bon Jovi to be legends? Probably not. I sure do. Base it on nothing other than their statistical accomplishments.

Statistics don't make legends. BJ won't be legends. Too many still donÄt take em not seriously and consider them a Joke. I didn't until LH came along!

Again - Guess it depends on where you're from and what people "get". They're referred to as legends already by many here in America.

What, in your opinion, makes legends? The fact that YOU like them?
