i really doubt that the bj camp realises what the "hardcore" fanbase wants...when they play who says almost every show and worst of all when jon chooses to close the special(!)shows with i love this town...really gutted about those choices...
2 subjects come to mind...1. what the loyal fanbase really wants???maybe we dont like who says but in general it gets a response, more in north america. jon is a smart guy and knows when a song works...of course there are times that because of his belief in the song the lyrics he works much harder to sell it in comparison to other songs...
2. jon obviously focus mainly in the north american market, thats his main goal and he has succeed the last decade, puting europe sadly a second priority. a misconception in bj's mind is that these days was a failure while the many many fans consider it their best work. simply because it tanked in the us and the following tour must have been dissapointing in the us by bj standards.
Having said that i dont think jon is scared of himself...for gods sake it was the same guy who rocked these shows in wembley, not someone else... if he had such issues he wouldnt continue to perform at all the way i see it...jon hates the 80s/hairmetal label thats why its really questionable if we ever see anything from the new jersey era released...i just think that the mammersmith show is sth different, it looked like they were on fire, the setlist is full of classics and covers(which may be a problem on its own) and the presence of jimmy page gave something extra imo.
having said that i doubt that jon remembers these shows along with the one in wembley arena...if he knew that the fans would like sth like that from the archive maybe he looked at it differently and not like a sad nostalgic turning back
