Well they already released an album that matched that description two years ago.
I have a theory that Jovi sort of work in 2's. Like they are a different band every two records. Therefore the first two albums have simularities in that they both have a heavier edge and are simular lyrically. Then Slippery and New Jersey had a simular sound and style of song writing.
Then they moved onto a new sound for the 90's. These days had a few simularities to KTF. KTF title track sounded like Damned a little for example.. also simular lyrical themes...
Bounce and Crush were basically as you described (though I like them both.. particuarly Crush). This was Bon Jovi for a new generation. It may not have been what all of the original fanbase wanted but if it turned some of the pop fans out there onto some form of rock music, it served its purpose.
Therefore, Im sort of guessing that this album won't be another Bounce or Crush. Bounce pretty much flopped commercially and critically and I'm sure the guys know when to stop beating a dead horse. Thats why Im guessing this album will be a fresh approach as Have a Nice Day suggests... There will be signs of the Crush/Bounce Jovi as well as borrowed elements from past albums for sure, but lyrically and (besides the heavy guitars) soundwise, they might be a whole new band.
TLFR was an experiment... It may not influence the sound of this album one bit. Im hoping they set out to make the exact opposite of it myself. From what I've read and heard this could be the case..
I know its hard for some to be hopeful but they might surprise us this time... For me, it doesn't have to be as good as These Days or KTF, but if its a good album, I'll be very satisfied with it..
