Yeah, there was a japanese law passed in the late '70s that said all musical media had to be given an expected date of spontaneous combustion. There were several problems with records - when they were exposed to certain temperatures with unnatural levels of toxic gases (like in polluted cities, such as Tokyo) the mixture of the substances in the record would spontaneously combust.

Only a few record labels carried this dating across to CDs - and now it's defunct, as CDs don't combust.
