Every time Bon Jovi tried to be more socially conscious or to approach more adult content they didn't embrace. The asia did, Europe did, South America did.

That reflects what Jon was pursuing with Sex Sells. Didn't he say on WWB that they did a fanclub hearing party for the record and the fans absolutely hated it though he loved? If you ask me, Real Life, Stay, Just Older, One Wild Night, Life's Too Short For Days Like These and the other Sex Sells stuff would make a better album than Crush for my music taste, but I understand the importance of that metamorphosis caused by It's - I'm Gonna Live - My Life.
I agree about them not being (nowhere near as) popular. Disagree about the reset.

You make it sound like Sex Sells was These Days, part two with a different name. It wasn't. It was a return to a more simple (poppy) and uplifting songs. It was still (demo version of) the same album with a few different songs. Much like the 2004 vs. 2005 versions of HAND.

No, he was referring to the TLFR record with this statement. Unless it was in some of the outtakes or I simply lost memory of it.

I was never sad about Sex Sells not materializing as Jon's third solo album. Some songs were good fun, but was all too shallow for me after These Days and Destination Anywhere. Not too fond of Crush either, at least not the way that it was released. With some of the B-sides (Stay, Neurotica, Temptation) it would've made a hell of an album for me, but Sex Sells (at least what is known from the listening party) never cut it for me.

Well, Stay, These Arms Are Open All Night are pretty broken heart songs, the vibe that Jon intentionally dodged with Crush.

Poppy, but I don't think Sex Sells had that "I'm gonna live my life" that we got since Crush.

I think Sex Sells would be a classic among fans and not casual fans today. And Crush would've been a better album with more songs of Sex Sells or the b-sides instead of a lot of bad songs that are on the final tracklist

Thanks for the explanation. I thought that he was speaking about SS, for the question being ",there was a time that if you followed one path yiu wouldn't be successful as today".

I think the songs are fun but putting a song like I don't wanna live forever on the album, or Hush really wouldn't have made too much of a difference.

I'm with Walleris on this, there wasn't a huge difference between the eras of Sex Sells and Crush. A lot of telecaster-y sounding song with an acoustic behind it. I really think it got LESS poppy once the band got back together. Hush, Life`s Too Short, Real Life. All super catchy and the direct opposite of Destination Anywhere. There are songs that lean in that direction on that album but for the most part it`s cold and loop filled.

I would love for Jon to do something really cool and release Sex Sells as it was initially intended, with artwork and all... Even the songs that made it to Crush, I'd like to hear the SS versions... Have a few bonus tracks thrown in as well. Like they did with Sons Of Beaches... That would be awesome!!!

I like that idea!

I agree with those who said that the Sex Sells demos still are poppy. But they are also more rock & roll than most songs that ended up on Crush.

100 percent YES. The b-sides from Crush and the box set are the exact same versions (Gimme Some, Hush, Don't wanna Live forever, You can't lose at love, Crazy Love etc) with his solo band but I would love to hear the original takes of Older, I got the Girl and Real Life in good quality. Shadow Dancing gets stuck in my head sometimes.

Good Ain't Good Enough, Shadow Dancing, and the unheard track, Someday You'll Ride Wild Horses...
