They've never written songs that required a great bass player. I'm sure Alec or Hugh are able to play very difficult stuff. To be honest, I'm not waiting for a bass solo.

Salaam Aleikum,

I'm not asking for a solo either... And I think a great bass player would be able to find great lines on any song. Not technically difficult lines, but cool and original rather than basic as on 90% of BJ songs. I know Alec and Hugh are able to play difficult stuff, it's just they hardly ever came up with a more than basic bass line.
I think it adds a lot to songs, and can bring a lot of power into rock songs.

Stone, I think you should read Santa Fe's post again.

I agree for the live album, big hole in their discography.

bass is such an unimportant part of this band. why write decent basslines when they will go unnoticed by 99% of the target audience. if they were a hip-hop act, i'd say go for it, but i really don't think it's necessary.

i'd say they are lacking direction at the moment. tat is the big problem. they don't know where to go so they're following the crowd. i think they need to find their feet again.

they are following the crowd. they are doing what they think will please others rather than pleasing themselves. rule number one when writing music is to write something you like yourself. if jon and richie are seriously telling us they prefer writing and performing bounce to keep the faith or jersey or these days, then they need to re-consider their position as a rock band.
