Keba, we all want Jon and the band to continue making great, quality music. I don't think it's up to you to approve or disapprove of JBJ's acting. I think it's something he does because he likes to,if you don't care forhis acting then don't watch the movies he makes. As for the football team, have you really listened or watched when he talks about it? It's very obvious that he's crazy about this new project, it seems to make him very happy. Why shouldn't he be allowed that? I'm not trying to be mean, but you sound a bit like a spoiled child. Is he supposed to sit in a locked room and do nothing except what pleases you? Would you want anyone telling you what you have to do with your life and making judgements about your choices when they don't even know you? I think not.

You really took Kebas post the wrong way.

Jon's allowed to do what he wants but the question was what do WE want him to do. And I want the same thing as Keba. Drop all the nonsense like arena football and start concentrating on the music. Make a decent album for a change, and put on a good show.

It's the bands decision, but if you ask our opinion, that's what it's going to be. No one's telling them to do anything, but if you ask what do I want, that's what I'll say.

Somehow, I knew I was gonna get slammed for this.... I don't want Jon to please me. I just think the football team is way to much. As for acting, I don't like the fact that he's acting (I've never seen one of his movies, BTW), but I guess it's a creative outlet for him. I don't see what's so creative about a football team.

I apologize Keba if I took what you wrote incorrectly. There is nothing wrong with wanting a great record and great shows from the band, but we could argue for a week about wheter or not recent albums and shows were or were not great because truly IMO, music is subjective to each listener. A song I feel is wonderful, you may feel is just ok or absolute crap.
Keba, here is what i believe is the football thing for Jon. He loves the sport. The love affair that we have for the bands music is the same way he feels about this football team. While you feel there is nothing creative about owning and running a football team, for someone like Jon who saw a chance to build something from the ground up, help it grow and become successfuland allow him another outlet within which to be philanthropic and see tangible results from that must be a huge high for him. He's been a successful musician for a very long time and i think the extreme highs from it have settled down a bit he still loves it, it still feels good to do it but it doesn't give those huge rushes of adreniline that it used to.

You all may not like the other endevours but what would Jon use for inspiration for songwriting if he didn't do anything else? I know that some of you feel that Jon's team and acting distract him from music and maybe it does to an extent, but I look at it another way. If there wasn't football, acting, etc.. then I'm not sure there would be any more music because those other endeavors provide him with the creative energy to make music.
Thanks Ice for letting me know I was misinterpreting a post.

First, Id like to say I've read through this topic completely (or tried to
for that matter) before I decided to join the board and post a reply to it .
like most of you, I have been a fan of Bon Jovi , the band , as a whole
since I have been about 10 ( im 29 now) and I have to agree with some
valid points a lot of the posters on this topic made in this post.

I dont find it like some folks to take cheap shots at Jon or the
band . I do feel in the last few years however as a few posters said that Bon Jovi seems to have lost the fire or drive they once have , and it seems other actvities have been put forth before the music and making a brillant cd is concerned . While I have no objections to creative outside intrests if they have them, I felt there output in the past few years lost that spunk and fire it once had. Im not looking for a "nostalgia" revamp of old material either or a "greatest hits road show" . In fact I loved a lot Crush and Bounce . Both had a lot of bright spots , and it wasnt all a bleak and dismal affair . I feel however the band as a whole sidetracked themselves with other areas ( soul team ETC) and this made the music and the atmosphere lack as a whole .

Bon Jovi , while I feel will never again be the force they were in the 80's are a band that stood the test of time and will always have a loyal following. There music has always and will continue to speak volumes for me as a fan of them and there music. Will I always buy Bon Jovi CDS? Sure, the music comes first and fan I like to see my band of choice creative evolve and grow within themselves as well as there music . Im not intrested in there looks , the fanfare or hoopla that goes on with that. I might very well be in the minority with that, but I as whole just prefer to enjoy the cds , see them at live performances and enjoy what the music and such has and will have embodied for me .

I do agree with a lot of you that hes lost as I said above enthusiasm when it comes to performing. I agree with Mousbounce that THEY need to please themselves and not worry over whats "in " or "hip clip of the week".

I agree about Sheps bush there . He was "in the zone" and it all seemed to sound great . I also agree that hearing them live on some tracks as well is truly better than the studio tracks. Another example of an artist who shows that is Bruce Springsteen. Give him a live audience hes a lighting rod and his lackluster studio tracks get breathed new life with a freshness much like Jovi has . A prime example of this is " Dry County" . I HATED this on the album cut, I heard it live on a CD concert and loved it . WHY? cause THEY put soul and energy into it. It shows.

As for backstage and the fans over there, ( Ive read this board and theres ) I really feel (this is opinion only) that most fans over there (not all) really come across as rude and arrogant to most outsiders and they do indeed make you feel unlike and unaccepted. It seems to me a lot over there is "politically correct" and if you do say about the band or Jon what the hardcore fans want to hear you automatically cant fit in within a topic of conversation and to me a fans should be able to talk about the band they love and the music. Over there to me it seems too many fans are worried over Jons every move , or what hes wearing or something very trivial . I feel this makes true fans feel dampened by all that and it reflects a poor image on fans who like the music and not fans who are in it for just that. Thats only a opinion and mine alone . As for fans "telling Jon if hes not on the mark" well nope I dont see that. It is I feel at times blind leading the blind , and I do feel a lot of dead fish go with the flow there only to feel they might be ousted by there peers if they voice there own opinions.

Let me say this too , its not that the music isnt up to my standards I just want freshness back , a sense of enjoying what they do and beleiving it again. I will always be a faithful fan, enjoy the music and love that as a whole .That to me is what keeps me going to see them live, or buying a new cd .Its about the music they make and what these guys embody as a band , and what they give us as fans .I want them to continue to have outside intrests, I want them to make solo records ( I love both Richie and Jons and Daves outputs) . I agree he should do that, as the rest of them and let them flow how they want.

There are slim pickings today in music I agree . I follow truly only Bon Jovi . While I like other bands or artists (Elvis and Bruce Springsteen really) Bon Jovi is really the first one . I agree like MouseBounce you kinda hope and hold out to see what they create next and hope it will blow the face off the water . Im in for that as much as the rest.

I saw the family thing just now and I agree on one thing with poster who said it . They all seem to lately to spend less and less time with there familes and seems no one really notices that. To me it seems they more away from there familes in the last few years ( with exceptions of a few occasions) and comes across that way . So I to always wonder why fans worry if they "get enough family time" . I could care less really. It does seem that when they tour its all about the family . All in all I feel familes have nothing to do with touring .Its what they want to do or enjoy doing. To me I feel its not enjoyment like it used to be and the lure of home might not just be all in all for familes so who knows? Only spectulation here.

Well about the soulteam, I for one have no issues with that he and they enjoy it. Do I feel this was a "money making" endevor? Yes, I do and always felt that. I actally do have Soul Season tickets . I go cause i loved arena football and enjoy watching it . Its great he owns the team for himself but thats not why I attend I enjoy it myself . As for acting solo Cds ETC, fans need to make there own call . I think Jon is a BETTER actor than a lot of real actors Ive seen out there these days .He enjoys it he tries , hes no James Dean or Marlon Brando but Ill give the guy credit for enjoying something hes passionate about.

All in all this concludes my commentary . I just want them back to basics enjoying and bein passionate about it again. Sorry I was winded a bit . And just like to say you guys have a great forum goin here.

Donna, it's easy to say follow another band but that is not the point. I have enjoyed this band for the past 17 years now and will be a fan of theirs forever. Just because people might complain about their music now, doesn't mean that they are not fans but mainly that they are disappointed fans. Could Bounce have been better? in my opinion yes and so could have Crush. For me, their last great album was These Days. Now when the new CD comes out, will I buy it? you bet because I am a fan. Does it mean, I will automatically like it because it's Bon Jovi? no but I am a fan with a mind. I am not the kind who says, I don't care if they sing the phone book, as long as we get music. I want music but I want good music.

Having outside interests doesn't bother me but it's when those outside interests overtake the band. It was happening with Jon's movies. During the ninities, you could see that Jon was more interested in movies then he was in music. He even said it himself. Now the movie roles have dried up and so it's back to music. He now has his football team which is great of him but how much promotion he has done for the team. Where was the promotion for TLFR or the boxset? nothing. Yeah, yeah I know that it was only for the diehard but it really does seem like it's no big deal for them now. Of course it's different when it comes to the team, Jon is everywhere with that team.

Another thing that gets to me is the touring. Yes, I understand that they have families and now their priorties are different and so I do not fault them at all for cutting down their schedule. No one wants another breakdown like in the eighties but only when it comes to touring do I see they have families now they want too see. When they are not touring, is Jon with his family? he is busy, promoting the Soul Team, he is going on location making a movie, he is busy supporting John Kerry. No one even brings up his family then, why is he with his family? only when it comes to touring, do we see, they want to spend time with their family

Couldnt agree with you more.I dont want to bash them, but he should do it coz he wants to do it! Not because he has to!

Other than every ounce of his blood and fiber and being at every moment so he should do what I want all the time?
As for 'freedom of speech' and yet another lameass attempt on this sight to denegrate Americans, perhaps you're unfamiliar with the fact that 'freedom of speech' is not a flat-out given right all the time under all situations. It's an easy term to toss off when you want to whine about why your posts are deleted or why you think the fan club is running a lame site but there are guidelines, there are ethics involved...

You cannot go into a crowded movie theatre and yell, 'fire!' (Though given some of the 'hoaxes' perpetrated by those on this board over the past few years, some of you seem the type who would find this funny.)
You cannot go on television or print in papers information you KNOW to be false and defaming of someone's character...
Also, the internet is the wild, wild west but when someone hosts this board, the hosts can delete ANYTHING they want that I post. It's not a god given right that I come to this site and can post anything I want. If I posted that you and your mother have tag-team sex with lemurs is that OK? That can be deleted.
That said, anythiing posted on anyboard anywhere can be deleted at the will of whomever is hosting, moderating or supervising the board. You don't like the rules? Visit another site or host your own. Whining about 'freedom of speech' is just a lame excuse when you don't want to accept the fact that you don't have free-run of the internet to post anything you want anywhere you want.
Don't expect an official site of any artist to tolerate the bullshit that some people want to post...
