Heh, I agree, this is probably the happiest I've ever seen the board in over 6 years of me posting here!

As much as I was indifferent about some of the songs on Lost Highway, at least Bon Jovi never releases anything that I would never want to hear again. Might not be as good as Wanted or Prayer, but it's decent. And there are ALWAYS at least a handful of songs on every record, that are good to very good (in my opinion.) I think in others opinions too. This is what I think seperates Bon Jovi from the rest and why they're still relevant, selling records, and playing stadiums.

Rant over.
Thats what makes Bon Jovi so great and one of the greatest bands in the world.

7800 is so great, I love every song on that album. God i wish it wasn't so underrated and that BJ would play from this record.

I think DL's new album is much better than Lost Highway. It's no better than HAND though.

As far as I'm concerned, Bon Jovi's supposed 'relevance' and high sales figures can only be attributed to: good label support.

Sorry, but I completely disagree. If the music sucked, it doesn't mean a damn thing how much the label gave it support. There are many other artists who get more label support and aren't the puss of a pimple on Bon Jovi's ass. As Kathleen said, it's also got much to do with Bon Jovi's live performances.

I never said the music sucked. Like I have posted many times, since KTF BJ always releases good shit and bad shit. The music is overall pretty good, but to me there are many BJ's supposedly '80s counterparts' that releases ok to good music but still didn't get label support. That is the biggest difference.

I want to know which BJ 80s counterparts that got more label support than Bon Jovi. I'd say the answer is none.

I personally have watched many bands that equalled or sometimes topped BJ's live shows. That's not to say that BJ's live shows aren't good at all.

I think it's a mixture honestly. I think that live shows and just solid songwriting has a lot to do with it. Those of us on this board are so close to the band that I think it's easy to be complacent about setlists and shows sometimes. I'm not saying they shouldn't vary, and it's obvious with these European shows that they can, but I think that sometimes we can forget the power of a song like Prayer. Think about it, Livin' on a Prayer has become one of the most well known songs in the world, and has lasted over 20 years. There's obviously something timeless there, that can connect it to people of any generation.
To address Yomama's point, I do think Bon Jovi gets a ton of label support compared to other 80's bands, though still less than most current artists. However, as we know the music industry is cutthroat. The reason BJ gets said support is because they have a track record of enough success that the record company feels the band warrants it.
Oh, and as far as Lep goes, Sparkle Lounge is a good album, not great though.

Wanted Dead Or Alive...thats what separated them from thousand other glam bands...
There were really thousand long hair rock guys...but Bon Jovi were "cowboys"... That made them original and interesting... That's why they get that kind of label support...

Twisted Sister got their label support because they were rejected Barbie ideas.

Long live rock n' roll.
