I think he sounds good. The samples in the chorus are a bit obvious, but he's still singing a hell of a lot better than ever in the 2000s. I'd rather listen to 3 hours of the 87 footage than an hour of 2013.

I couldn' even hear two songs of that footage, it's dreadful. Yes, songs are faster, but Jon can't at all.

Which one is better in your opinion ? I don't believe that you'll prefer to see on your show the 2013 version instead of the old "dreadful" 87 version.

To be honest, I'd put them at the same level. I don't like Raise Your Hands live now, I've been saying it for the last 3 years, but the other one (though it sounds bad), it has Richie and the guys moving using all the stage. I'd pick the one of the '87 because of the "show".

If I had to pick a full gig, I'd pick Tampere without a doubt.

2013 easily.

I thought it was bad to listen to on 'What About Now' but I can't believe how bad he sounds live. I said it the other day, but to think that he can a decent voice 2-5 years ago is mad. We can all go on about how he sounded 20 years ago, but it was literally two years ago when he sounded pretty good on a lot of songs. Not great by all means, but I could certainly listen to a full DVD whereas now, I don't know if I could.

I will be into the shows I go too but Jons vocals are the biggest worry for me. Not the fact Richie isn't going to be at my shows, but just Jons vocals.

That 'Raise Your Hands' from yesterday was painful. I cringed.

Maybe he needs to start flying around in the air again. Pink swears that she sings better when she is hanging upside down.

It isn't until you rewatch old footage that you realise how lazy Jon has become. The rest of the band still go for it. I forgive the bad vocals in the 80's because it was relentless touring and he didn't know how to look after his voice along with the energy he gave in every show.

What's his excuse now?

I only watched the whole of "Wanted Dead Or Alive" from 1987 and also "Born To Be My Baby" from last night (not the whole show, which I plan on watching soon though).

About the first. He totally sounds shot, but you can still feel the power of his voice. I think the voice strained like that actually adds feeling to the performance, given what the song is about. And no, I'm not saying I prefer it like that over a clean, nice, happy 1989 VMA version. I'm just saying it "makes sense" and somehow it works. I just feel for the guy, 'cause he was obviously straining himself to pieces. Also, maybe I'm deaf, but I honestly don't hear any samples/playback here. He goes from okay to barely something because his voice is shot. It's there, but it's shot.

About the second. After reading all the comments about how dreadful and horrendous it was, I was prepared for the apocalypse. Volume not too high in order not to lose any years of life over it. That kind of thing. I don't know... Yes, he's far from stellar, yes, he made a pretty obvious mistake at the 13:13 mark, yes, sometimes he delays a line to take a nice breath and yes, I'm pretty sure he messed up the words coming out of his mouth (not the line itself) once. But it doesn't sound light years away from what we've been hearing on recent tours, honestly. He also moves quite a bit, jumping around and stuff. Maybe the whole show will put everything into perspective a little more and I'll see the light as well, but at the moment, I just think that he needs some rest, some coaching probably, but to me it doesn't seem like the world's about to end just yet.
