He sounds dreadful in Yokohama 2003 because he was sick.

I think this version of In These Arms is very good from that show.

I think his worst vocals ever are to Back Door Santa. They not only recorded it, they released it, and it keeps coming back every year. I read that his vocal chords were bleeding when he was singing every night at that point. They never should have released that song.

Yeah but you've made it blatantly obvious that you're stuck in the eighties and that the only good music to listen to is hard rock and that's about it. 2013 has bad vocals, yes but 1987 was VERY bad.

I don't get the argument that 1987 was justified because he was going all out every night. Hsu vocals were dreadful. Period.

I agree with Panda here. I've seen shows on every tour since Slippery. From those early shows, I used to just think that they sounded awful live (before the internet and massive media coverage, so I didn't know his vocals were "shot"). He had nothing.

In 1987 he was hoarse from abusing his vocal chords. Every note he sang sounded strained because they were damaged.

Last night was a different kind of awful. There are times he could sing a note beautifully and then the next verse he sounded like a strangled cat. The difference is he has lost so much control and range. In 87 he still had it, it was just damaged. Now he has limited range because of the past damage.

In 87 his vocal chords were so damaged that he was getting injected with steroids to enable him to even talk. He sounded like absolute shit and mimed a lot of the songs. Now he's just stuffed up and breathless. 87 takes it for vocals for the sole reason that he had none.

One song: Bad Name 2003 (TLFR). Even studio magic couldn't make up Jon's voice.

I think it's supposed to sound kinda sultry and a little raw...
