Jon sounds much better in that 1987 clip than he does now. And he's nowadays much more out of tune than he was then.

It's like Steven Tyler and Aerosmiths first album where he sounds awful. Some like it, most hate it. I think he sounds awful on that, but I love what he did afterwards. If you prefer Tony Bennet over a rock vocalist, fine, but I don't. Jon used to be Steven Tyler, now he's at best a Willie Nelson.

I have "sand in my pussy" because I prefer vocals that are in tune and not destroyed? Back then he was rarely in tune and sounded dreadful. I'm not saying that 2013 vocals are good, because they are not at all. But I'm saying 87 screeching out of tune vocals hurt my ears to listen to. I just don't understand how one can sit down and listen to that... and enjoy it.

I can forgive Jon in the 87' videos simply because he's moving around the stage and genuinely seems enthusiastic as does the band. To hear Jon screech through his set in 2013 whilst hanging onto the microphone his dear life is depressing.

Yeah but he's also double the age he was. People keep saying age doesn't matter. But it sure as hell does. There's the odd exception like Springsteen... but not many. Age plays a role in this.

Even if those ultrahigh notes are awesome, I feel sad for him.

That whole show (and leg) was a huge gongshow. They just look like idiots running around the stage. The music sounds sloppy and the vocals are down right awful.

No, because you think you know what I think and don't respect the opinions of others. And again, they're not out of tune nor destroyed. That's your opinion of the quality, but he's better in tune than in 2013.

You don't have to understand, just as I don't have to understand how anyone could enjoy the howling Jon now calls singing. He used to be a great rock vocalist, now he's hardly a vocalist. And that's not just my opinion, there are a lot of professional critics how think the same. So it's just my "blatantly obvious" love of "hard rock", like you say.

And still, I'd rather listen to all the Slippery-era bootlegs than a single one from 2013. And it has nothing to do with the 80s or hard rock. I just think they were a hell of a lot better back then.

He's not moving around much during Twist & Shout or Never Say Goodbye though, and he still sounds dreadful.

I have to agree with you. Im not a big fan of the 87-88 performances, not because of the voice (only) but because of the fact that they sound sloppy as hell as you have said. I dont know, I've seen local bands playing in my town that only deliver "stage presence" and its fun... and the play... well, let's say they play quite well but I wouldn't pay to see only that (and BJ in these videos show me that... apart from the stellar performance here and there IMHO).

What matters for me is the music experience, I couldn't care less for a bunch of guys jumping all over the place and thats what I mainly see in this videos. I want the music to make me jump and drive me crazy, not a guy who is on a high and can't stop running (well, if I have both, music and presence, i can't complain but I can't see that in almost all these shows).

The thing that gets me mad is the fact that when Jon was in the 80s he was not focused on his voice, being it more or less quite good. Maybe if he has trained he could have delivered not only an awesome voice in the 80s, but a voice that wasn't so bad right now (he improved a lot in the 90s though IMO).

I also don't understand how anyone can sit through 2013 vocals either though. But I think I'm under the impression that you don't like any vocals from the past few tours. I like his vocals from The Circle and LH tours a lot.
