I saw them in 03 in Hyde park pulling in 103,000 people on the same weekend as Glastonbury. Would never happen now unfortunately .
It is not about compete with other bands, they have been in Europe too many times over the years and that is the main reason why they dont have full stadiums and this is good pause,6 years. They could do good tour in Europe, but they need to play in states they never been before beside usual-Germany,England,Ireland,Italy,Austria etc, they need to go to in Russia and the eastern Europe and Balkan, there are 5,6 countries to play concerts.

Of course their decline had also been due to oversaturating the European market - e.g. they had toured Germany 7 times in about 13 years. Of course all the casuals that had seen them during this period at some point decided to spend their money and see another act instead. What didn't help either was that (in Germany) there hadn't been a strong song on the radio since Make A Memory and, to some extent maybe, Born To Follow.
They could do one or two stadiums in the big countries, but a) they'd need to have at least one song out that gets some airplay and b) it largely depends on the ticket prices they're gonna charge. With such insane prices as on the last two US legs, they won't even come close to filling their homeground stadium in Munich.

I can only speak as a USA citizen, but ticket prices are so expensive for any act you might want to see, that artists are pricing themselves out of attendance. I would like to see Phil Collins, Elton John, the Eagles, Pink, and Keith Urban this year. It’s not likely to happen because of the expense.

A lot of the future will depend on Jon's voice, as if it keeps deteriorating he won't be able to perform for much longer. It's not clear at this point if waiting a few years before another tour would be good or bad for his voice either.

With that said, my dream scenario would be for them to take off a few years and then do a huge stadium tour with Richie celebrating the 35th anniversary of Slippery, playing the whole album every night (just like what Bruce did with the River and U2 with the Joshua Tree). I don't think that will happen though. My second choice would be to have Jon do a acoustic/solo tour in smaller venues, but that's also doubtful since the $ wouldn't be enough for him.

I think the most likely scenario is Richie won't rejoin and every so often they will do short stints of vanilla shows, with Jon's voice continuing to deteriorate. They still have some good songs left in them, and I think they will release at least 2 more albums, hopefully more. We're also due for another good box set from this band, so I'm hoping for one of those in the upcoming years as well.

Sliperry is not the absolute BJ album for me but besides that, I totally agree with what you're saying.

30th anniversary of New Jersey was the missed boat to play the whole album... without Sambora it doesn't work and JBJs vocals are horrible also.
