I struggle with my weight. I joke that I've been on a diet since I was ten. So, I think you're wrong in saying overweight people don't care as much about their looks. I think it's exactly the opposite. Everything becomes about weight. They feel like they're not good enough to be out in public with the rest of humanity because they're not a size 2. Like WWD has referenced, people are CRUEL to overweight people. Absolutely vicious. So overweight people learn to hate themsevles and hate their bodies. It's okay to make fun of someone who needs to loose 30 pounds. Make a racial slur or laugh at a disabled person and you can get sued. At my thinest, I thought I looked like a sumo wrestler or something and now I can look back and photos and realize I was just a normal sized girl. Hell, I was thinner than some people I thought were thin! Self concept is completely screwed up! I wish I could be as thin now as I was in high school when I thought I was huge.
Where was I WhiteWingedDove? Depends on when you were looking. I've been in the pen-pal community for years before getting online. I can assure you, I wouldn't have been hateful to you at all. I would have been there cheering you on and probably doing whatever diet you were doing at the time. I think I've done them all.
But here's another thing for you to consider... there are just a lot of bitches in the Bon Jovi community. It has NOTHING to do with weight or which member of the band is their favorite either. I don't go out of my way to meet other Bon Jovi fans because so many are just catty and think they're in competition. "Oh, I've seen the band 253 times." "Well, I'm in the Bad Medicine video!" "Yeah, well, I grew up 15 houses down from the janitor at Richie's middle school!"
The last time I went to see Bon Jovi, I met up with Keith fans. They're just a nicer group, generally speaking, but there are some bitches in that community too. It's like everything else in life. You have to take the good with the bad.
