What's wrong with this picture

of Jon, Richie, and pioneering New York City rock DJ Dave Herman?


Nothing -- if you ignore the story that the New York Daily News ran with it:

Dave Herman, retired New York rock 'n' roll DJ at WNEW, busted in child sex sting in Virgin Islands

Apparently, the Daily News' editors are unfamiliar with a photographic technique known as "cropping." Jon and Richie have nothing whatever to do with the story, and given the nature of what Herman's been charged with, this is a particularly cringe-inducing example of giving journalism a bad name.

Gutted! Unfortunate that Jon and Richie are in the picture, seems to be all the rage lately in the UK Saville, Rolf Harris, musicians as well Front man from Lostprophets has had all sorts of charges against him messed up world

If I seem to be taking this personally, it's because I've worked in the journalistic field in various capacities, so things like this give ME a bad name.

If this photo had been published on my editoral watch, I would have drop-kicked both the reporter and the editor onto an unemployment line faster than you can say "Sacked!"

In tribute to the legacy of the WNEW-FM DJs who practically raised me (Jonathan Schwartz, Pete Fonatele, Rosko, Dennis Elsas, Scott Muni, Alison Steele, Zacharly) I'll offer Mr. Herman some legal advice:

Since it was a sting and Herman is nearly eighty, the obvious lines of defense are to plead either entrapment or advanced age-related dementia. Except that entrapment doesn't take the better part of a year, and demented people can't plan far enough ahead to get airline tickets. Well, I tried!
