jons voice isn't like when he was 20 anymore> for me thats a good thing because he was at his best during the these days era IMO but i still dont think he is bad at all now i watch the AMA at bonjovi.com and i thought it sounded fine but thats just my opinion

jon at 20 was good but afterwards was a better time i think

20 would have been the first 2 albums wouldn't it?

his vocals on something to believe in was his one of his best its amazing

Tash, I was not being critical, merely stating facts. I am very fond of the Magic Tour recordings cause they're so energetic and easier to sing along to You will find no one with higher respect for Freddie than me. He's the best frontman ever, no question. Anyone who doesn't at least respect his ability, even if they don't like the music, is either in need of a hearing check or is a goon. I listen to his performances, studio and live, and am often stunned regardless of how often I hear them. He nailed "The Show Must Go On" in one take. His final performances on "Made in Heaven" are... well, exactly that, I suppose.

I remember watching impersonator Gary Mullen on "Stars in their Eyes". He was OK, but failed it on the more powerful parts. I remember finding it quite funny he picked a song with the line "There can be only one"

Sorry... I'm just sensitive where Freddie and Queen are concerned.. I know you weren't being critical, I've just never heard someone saying his voice was rough considering that most fans still consider the Magic Tour as their best!

Glad to meet another fan!

At least the magic of studio production helps to put some life into Jon's voice. I've been to several shows post-Crush...some nights are better than others. And I think everyone will admit that hearing some of the Slippery and New Jersey tracks performed live...there just doesn't seem to be that power there anymore which takes so much away from the intensity. I've actually heard some people say that his voice as improved??? I suggest you listen to the Cincinnati shows from 1987 (March 19th and 20th). They blew me away.

But at the same time, if you've ever heard a show from that same tour where his voice was messed up, it's just a complete disaster. I often wonder if he's still capable of singing the way he used to, but just doesn't to preserve his voice. I think a lot of his "new style" of whining through songs is how he's been trained by his vocal coach in order to preserve his voice. I don't find it necessarily unpleasant on the newer songs as much as I do on the older ones. It's kind of like cheating...he's found a way to sing without really having to really expand his range while singng, but sometimes it seems like he is. Like before the encore when he belts out those notes right before they go into "Shout"? It sounds nice, but it's not really that big of a deal in terms of showing off vocal abilities.

Plus, doesn't he smoke? That isn't going to help matters much. Obvious reasons why he frequently avoids singing "Always" and "I'll Be There For You". The worst though, is not hearing that high note at the end of "Runaway" or of course, the high notes on "Prayer".

Look at someone like Steven Tyler...who's vocal performance has ALWAYS been frightenly dead on for all of these years and after all of those drugs. Jon's voice will never be, but I do hope think he's more capable than some people give him credit for. I don't even want to imagine what it'd be like without Sambora there to cover for him.

Probably really nasty to say the least, unfortunately....
