I'm not saying this from the point of view of a Richie fan because I like Jon's singing talents too but even my dad, who is not the biggest fan of BJ in the world by far, agrees that of all the band members, only Richie could make a successful shot at a solo career. He has a fantastic voice and his guitar playing preceeds him. His voice has survived the passage of time whereas Jon's hasn't, so he sings all the high parts and shows, from his own live solo work, that he doesn't need to tune down to Eb like BJ songs cos his voice can cope.

I think I have to disagree with you. I don't think the band could survive without either of them... in particular, Jon. And, sadly, (preparing for bashing), I don't think either of them could have a very successful solo career. As I stated before, the magic is what they do together. I don't think Richie's guitar work carries the band--it's the songs that they write together and the live show. I also think Jon is one of the best frontmen in the business. If they lost Jon, the live show would go with it. I adore Richie and love his voice... but without Jon who would know who Richie is, really? Jon is the marketer, the face, the heart, the name...
However, if Richie left, it wouldn't be the same band, either. Hopefully that's something we won't have to worry about!
