Just a point to consider in all this. If either was to walk out, who would be most replaceable? Jon's vocals or Richie's guitar and backing vocals? IMHO Jon could be replaced. I do't mean that in a horrible way but its Richie's sound that we hear in a lot of BJ tracks. His guitarwork carries BJ. I'm not saying this from the point of view of a Richie fan because I like Jon's singing talents too but even my dad, who is not the biggest fan of BJ in the world by far, agrees that of all the band members, only Richie could make a successful shot at a solo career. He has a fantastic voice and his guitar playing preceeds him. His voice has survived the passage of time whereas Jon's hasn't, so he sings all the high parts and shows, from his own live solo work, that he doesn't need to tune down to Eb like BJ songs cos his voice can cope.

And, you know, Leanne, people are rude about Jon to his fans on this board all the time. As I said to someone else, consider who is posting to whom and take it with a grain of salt. Or are the Jon fans always supposed to just sit back and be nice given the crap posted about him by Richie fans all the time?

Becky

You know Becky...I think it's six of one, half a dozen of the other.
I have read a lot of very deogatory remarks by fans of BOTH guys.
I dont think either camp is totally pure in this regard!!
I think that if anyone had written that kind of sarcastic remark about Jon, you'd have been jumping in with both feet to 'defend' him.
I think we can all put our points of view across without resorting to rudeness toward the other band members.

I think I have to disagree with you. I don't think the band could survive without either of them... in particular, Jon. And, sadly, (preparing for bashing), I don't think either of them could have a very successful solo career. As I stated before, the magic is what they do together. I don't think Richie's guitar work carries the band--it's the songs that they write together and the live show. I also think Jon is one of the best frontmen in the business. If they lost Jon, the live show would go with it. I adore Richie and love his voice... but without Jon who would know who Richie is, really? Jon is the marketer, the face, the heart, the name...

However, if Richie left, it wouldn't be the same band, either. Hopefully that's something we won't have to worry about!

Jon has ALREADY had a successful solo career. His "flop" Destination Anywhere has sold around 4 million copies, more than all of Richie and Dave's CDs combined. He's had a #1 song as a solo artist. DA hit #1 is 6 or 7 countries. He's won a Golden Globe, an American Music Award, an MTV Europe Award, a Brit, some Australian awards, and been nominated for an Academy Award and multiple Grammys as a solo artist. He's garnered critical acclaim as an actor. If Jon wanted to continue solo, he could do so quite successfully. Fortunately for us the band has said numerous times they're beyond the point of breaking up and we won't have to deal with that.
