I think alltogether Jon is the better musician and better singer. But I have to admit that Richie's got this really sexy voice. Okay, when I think about it now...maybe Richie is better...

Aaaaaaaaargh - I really don't know...Let's face it, THEY'RE BOTH GREAT MUSICIANS AND I CAN'T DECIDE WHO'S BETTER...

I'm very sure Richie wrote a lot of songs by himself as well but I think whatever it is, Jon has the final say and I would suspect that he prefers his own songs over Richie's.

And secondly, I disagree that you have to be a great musician to write great songs. Check out Kurt Cobain for proof. Great songwriter. Lousy musician.

I pick Jon. Why do I pick Jon?

He's a great guitar player.
He can play harmonica, piano, other stuff.
And his voice range is amazing. He can sing so many different ways.
In Richie's solo songs, which he only wrote a few on his own..as compared to Jon who has written a lot on his own, Richie sings in a very similar way and lacks emotion. I like Richie's voice, and I am a fan of his stuff..but Jon is just a bit better for me. Take "Father Time"..take the music away from it and just hear Richie singing. He might as well be singing happily in the shower. Take "Always".. "Open All Night"...and some others with Jon..take away the music..and you can still hear the emotion in his voice.

I don't like choosing between band members. It's just annoying.

Have any of you heard Richie's back up on Everyday Live? It ruins the song quite often. Hear it on The Late Show with DL? Richie's vocals screwed up Everyday. Just my opinion.

Richie can put whatever he wants on his solo CDs.

Richie is handsdown the better all around musician. His vocal range is absolutely incredible - he has a much more vast range than Jon... He is easily one of the most amazing guitarists of all time... His songwriting skills are nothing less than superb. If we compare Richie's solo recordings with Jon's, there is no doubt that Richie shines as the more prominent musician. The lyrics are some of the most spiritually sound pieces of music composition imaginiable. Listening to him work a guitar solo -- he is able to paint a picture merely by stroking the strings. He draws the listener into his world - into the music. Just watching the man perform is breathtaking! Such passion in his performance... So much soul in his singing... The man never ceases to amaze me!

True enough but the bulk of the songs you mentioned were Bon Jovi songs penned by Jon the almighty dictator.
